My Disco 3 has completed 92000 km and recently I have noticed a whinning noise in the transmission commencing at about 100km/h and peaking around 120 kmph. Shifting the car out of gear and into neutral results in the noise disappearing. My Landrover service centre says the transmission oil and filter needs replacing. I do tow a 2500 kg caravan.
Has anyone else had similar problems.
Kymbo.

Hi Kymbo , I have had a judder under load between 100-120km/h. Send it in last week, to flush gearbox and voila, it is smooth, cant even feel gear change. Luckily done under extended motorplan, D3 has done 100 000km
Its worth to do the oil change.

Kymbo,
There are several threads on this subject including one on a TDV6 Auto Steel Pan and Seperate Filter to replaced the original plastic pan and built in filter.
Do a search for oil pan. Others have reported that the oil change does wonders.
BTW, since driving your D3 at Wallaroo CP I have installed an ECU upgrade (BAS) and have been very happy with it.
Smooth accelleration, no turbo lag and better economy when towing.:)

G'day Kymbo,

My D3 gearbox didn't have any issues however I still serviced the transmission at the 96000k service. I ordered the steel pan and transmission fluid from the company in Victoria and my local Darwin LR dealer did the service. I have noticed the gearbox to be running smoother since it was serviced.

I can highly recommend the after market steel pan and filter. All up it cost me $850 for the steel pan plus a filter and 10 litres of transmission fluid. This also included postage from Victoria to NT. The LR dealer then charged $150 to service it. I also still have about 3-4 litres of transmission fluid left. I got the extra fluid just in case they had to flush the transmission if it had been filthy, but this didn't need to be done.
