G'day all,
The brake light switch on my County has failed. According to Inc's 4BD1 disc/parts list I need part PRC4297 'Switch brake light'.
It is the type mounted on the back of the pedal box, in Land Rover's patented Hardest to Access Spot available for this application.
Does anyone know of an alternative switch available from Repco or the likes? A part number would be great :)
I've tried a Champion CSL48 but the switch isn't engaging on the pedal and its run out of adjustment.
I can't get to any LR specialists until the Landy is fixed and can't do mail order.
 Thanks for any help,
-Mark

Hi Mark, That is the correct part number for the switch and unfortunately I dont think there is much alternative to fitting a new one. The only other way you could do it is to fit a pressure switch in the brake line like the series ones had BUT there is a fair bit of work involved in that and would be better to replace the original switch .....Brian

I had to replace mine today and got this one from Bursons (car parts place). THis is a generic product not specific to landrover but has right thread size and depth
Not sure what car it fits just looked in parts mag to find one that looked about right and had right thread size

NOTE the thread on the part above is NOT the same as the original part - the guy at Bursons tested the original brake switch in a thread tester and determined it was 10 x 1.25 but it was not when I tried to fit it.

The new part is 10 x 1.25 - so I had to remove the top of the brake pedal box and tap the thread out to 10 x 1.25
