View Full Version : How heavy is a wheel plus tyre?

I am looking at freighting a d3 18" alloy wheel with tyre from Adelaide to Perth. Does anyone know how heavy this would be (25kg?) and the diameter and width? I'm too lazy to put the spare on the bathroom scales and SWMBO might make facetious comments about my spare tyre :D.
Any thoughts on freight costs, methods or carriers?

call paradigm logistics. they specialise in back filling half full trucks and so may be able to get you a good rate. 03 9870 6815

I used Pack'n'Send to get to 19" rims down from sydney to Melbourne.
They picked up the wheels, bubble wrapped them & boxed them from an Ebay vendor that was note to co-operative.
Cost $80.00 however the rims were only $50.00 for both so all up $130.00.
I don't think it was the cheapest freight but it was overnight & their service was great.

I've had a 6" D2 alloy posted to me here from Adelaide and in 2008 got a 16" Boost alloy for the Puma including a tyre shipped by road from Adelaide to Central Western Victoria overnight.
Whilst not the same size rims the weight and size is about the same I suspect.
Adelaide to Perth shouldn't be an issue and I'd expect <$100 for rim and tyre.
If it's from TRS in Adelaide ask them to quote the freight deal they can do.

I think you are pretty close with your guess on the weight. I haven't weighed a D4 rim & tyre, but a Patrol mag wheel & tyre, was 27kg. ( it is interesting that a steel rim with same tyre was 34 kg ) Won't be cheap to freight.
