Dangerous WorK!!

Today some workers were installing antenas in the water tower just around my place.
The wind is over 30KPH and some time more. On the top of that was raining :eek:
There is no way that I would be doing this work under the present conditions.
Not long ago they left because the conditions!
The tower is more than 60 meters high so the worker on the phot was easy 50 m above the ground :eek:

Had a friend who had a hobby of rock climbing, he worked for a company in Melbourne called Vertigo who specialised in doing high rise work. They would absail from the top of the building down to where the level of the job. All their tools were attached to them by ropes for saftey reasons.

I have done a lot of rope work, looks like he in the lee of the tower so its not really a problem. But from the picture posted I have some concerns.

Only one rope, so he’s not double harnessed.
He has got a static safety line that’s attached to the ladder (uncertified point) the real worry is that it seems not to be attached to his harness correctly. Note the orange relive strap on his back, that’s where it should be attached

I'd wager a guess and say that the hook up to the ladder is for stability only.
I'd definitely want a second rope for that work. I've climbed many times with only one rope but we hardly ever actually use the rope. It's just there, we never put weight on it.

If I was sitting in my harness like that for an extended period of time, I'd definitely want two ropes or some rated attachment points where I'm working.

Not always so. My harness is rated for fall arrest at the rear (as most are) as well as a chest connection.

quite correct, he has a speed brake and he is not hooked up to the ladder.

how ever the speed brake should be attached to the back and to the relefe straps.
