Power Bleed

Need to replace my front discs and pads and want to replace my brake fluid at the same time. Can someone advise how to properly perform a power bleed using a nanocom :eek:

I remember reading somewhere that ..yes... you can do a bleed without a nanocom ... but why would you want to do a bleed in a makeshift manner if you have a nanocom ... and I do :)

for a manual powerbleed---You could run the ABS pump for a few 30 second bursts to give the ABS modulator shuttle valves and their switches a good workout. This can be done by removing the relay for the ABS pump (in the under bonnet fuse box) and bridging the 2 large terminal connectors with a wire. Have the ignition OFF when doing this. The brakes can also be bled using this procedure.

I did mine last week with the Nanocom, I used the laptop in the car at the same time.

In the Disco ABS SLS section (of the nano) click on utility and it gives you a list of options to bleed.

I'm not sure of the sequence required but I just went through the whole lot a few times to completely flush the brake fluid.

First I drained the fluid out of the master cylinder reservoir then topped it up with fresh fluid. Then I ran the modulator bleed a few times, and then started bleeding each wheel individually. I found it easier to take off all the wheels and have it up on stands for easy access to the bleed nipples.

I started at the rear left and then rear right and then the front two. Then I bled the modulator again and went through the wheels again till I got clear fluid.

I started the "start test" routine on each wheel and ran back to it and opened the bleed nipple as it pumped away. Importantly, you will notice that the list has 2 front rights and a left and right of each on the rear. The rear ones are back to front and the front ones are well one right and so is the other... They should read, from the top down... left front.. right front.. left rear.. front rear..

A lot of fluid will pump out if you are on the correct wheel, you will still get a little fluid if on the wrong wheel. I used a length (1m) of clear tube into a jar so as not to create a mess. Don't forget to keep topping up the fluid reservoir
