Hi Guys,
The last couple of 4wd trips have resulted in some minor reshaping off the sills on my '96 110 (A nice big dent courtasy of my mate directing me up a track on his property, when we 'discovered' a nice big rock hiding in a bush he remembered that this was the dirt bike track and the 4wd one is the next one along!)
Anyway, I have decided some rock/tree sliders will be a worthy investment.
Does anyone have any recomendations or know of anywhere in the brisbane/gold coast/sunshine coast area I can get hold of a pair?
A search on here as shown that a lot of you have made your own but without the skill or the equipment to weld I am a bit limited there.
Cheers for the help,
Dave

As Scott mentioned you can try Rovacraft (http://rovacraft.com.au/) in Sydney.
If you're looking for something local then I'd try British Off Road (http://www.britishoffroad.com/) - they're on the Sunshine Coast.
Both British Off Road and Rovacraft sell Terrafirma rock sliders (http://www.terrafirma4x4.com/products_php.php?cat=15&grp=109).

Sadly i just bought some from rovacraft from my 130 they are copies of the Elite ones, they don't have the same finesse but look sturdy enough to cope with heaps of drama, just remember it is a land rover owned personally by you and not a rally car owned by the team lol:p

I fitted the Equipe 4x4 items to my car, they are really well built and cost around the $500 mark.

Just had a look on equipe 4x4 and the site says:
"Unfortunately, due to Equipe 4x4 Italy's "re-structuring" of their sales network, it is no longer viable to import these high quality products. If you have already purchased Equipe products, then you have a unique item here in Australia, as no-one will be able to afford to buy another! What is listed on the website is all the stock I have left, and will be run out, never to be replaced!! So if you want the best, you'd better hurry!!"
None listed on the site so they must have all gone.
British Off road quoted $645, not called rovercraft yet but will this afternoon.

If anyone wants any Equipe stuff and its not coming into Australia directly, try getting in touch with Derek at LRS 4x4 in the UK - sure he'll be able to help.

The steel side steps are pretty sturdy and not quite as expensive. I bought mine 2nd hand from Tombie when I first got the Defender.
I got side swiped by a Land Cruiser a couple of years ago, and the steel steps deflected the Cruiser without any damage to the steps. My doors and B pillar were creased, but without the side impact protection afforded by the steps, I reckon the Cruisers bullbar would have come through my door and fractured my hip.
Rock sliders are that bit stronger and more versatile for jacking, as is reflected in the price, but I'd recommend steel side impact protection (ie steps or sliders) for any Defender.

my rock/tree sliders fitted they are ok, but retrospectivley i would not buy the ones from rovercraft they are **** quality, sturdy in themselves but the mountings are substandard in my opinion and the welds of the mounts are poor, the outside welds have snots all over them a wire brush prior to painting would have been the go.
Had i had the opportunity to look at these elite copies properly prior to buying i would have realised that they did not have the jacking points like the Elite ones do....ELITE landrover defender 110 rock sliders on eBay (end time 21-Apr-10 20:47:16 BST) (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=200453278603&_trksid=p2759.l1259).... they need a bit of customiseation to fit a 130 ripped off again me thinks!

Go for the Terrafirma Tree/Rock sliders (from the UK) sold by Rovacraft in Australia. They look like they are made by ARB and match my ARB Bullbar in quality and appearance. You can view them on the Terrafirma 4wd website on their catelogue and purchase them from Rovacraft in Australia.

And if you get some steel sliders and happen to use them as a sidestep wearing work boots when its raining, be prepared to fall on your a** with arms stretched out frantically trying to grab the steering wheel :o :o :o :o :o
AND NO, that didnt happen to me in the middle of a busy car park with heaps of people around
(Moral of the story is to put some 3M anti slip grip tape on them, which I have since done haha)

As discussed above, Daniel (Mulgo) will custom manufacture sliders to your exact requirements. I am working with him on a custom set which is deeper (to assist midgets entering - see sep thread on grab handles !) and will have full length chequer plate.
