hi there,

Need some new tyres soonish, please point me to a thread if discussed/asked before.

Where's the best place to get tyres for the D3 in Brisbane?, or for that matter, which places to avoid?

Thanks,
Sheckster

It's not where, it's what. Once you have a what, you can get a where, once you're happy with the $$.

Search the D3 forum. Lots of threads on tyres.

If your off roading is limited to beachwork Coopers make a Highway tire that will be less noisy and they seem pretty good value $. Ring Fourby's at Moorooka.

Hi sheckster I have been buying tyres from the site at Moorooka (now Fourbys) since 1968 and I can't fault them for genuine assistance. Now you need to decide what type of tyre YOUR D3 needs and what you are prepared to pay. FWIW, I have had Cooper ATRs on 17 inch rims on my D3 and have been very happy with their overall performance. Not too noisy on the road ('except on some types of concrete pavements where the local authority has cut small channels to assist in water runoff) and not too heavy on the fuel consumption. Last set did 72,000 km and had ample tread left but seemed to become too hard in the compound and had less grip than I prefer. Current tyres are Dunlop Grandtrek AT20s and seem more road biased but slightly softer and quieter than the Coopers but still early days.

I had Pirellii ATR's fitted to my D3 by Southside Landrover - they could get a better price than all the ringing around I did at the time. From memory about $320 per tyre for the 18". They were actually fitted by Bob Jane at Stones Corner, but Southside put the car into wheel alignment mode and also had this done at the same time for not much more. Saved me much hassle and I was happy with the service. Then went and did a 4500 km trip west - now 20,000km on with the Pirelli's I'm pretty happy with them and how they are wearing.

Thanks for the reply/recommendation, save me from ringing around too much. Might try fourbys or southside LR. Currently getting brakes worked on for a staggering price of $1600 (pads and rotors) so I will need to stretch the tyres a little.
