With so many engine oils on the market does anyone have advice on what is a good oil to use in my 96, 110 diesel engine. They tell me Castrol RX Super is a good quality.
Thanks

I have read a lot of reviews and Castrol GTX3 for a 5,000km oil change, however I have now moved to Penrite Diesel HPR 15, a lot of people swear by this, and as it's semi-symthetic I have risen my services to 7,000 Kms. The Penrite is about $10-00 more expensive per 5 litres so I Think its rounds about even when compared over time, but With both of these oils during changes, I have not found any bits of metal from within the engine, so I'm sticking to these.

If you search the forum, you should find other threads and probably get a more in depth explanation of what oil to use.

Hope this helps

Thanks Mark

My '98 defender has done 424,000K's running on penrite HPR15 so it gets my pick. Pat

I would say that most oils on the market currently are good now just that some are better than others.
My preference is Penrite HPR Diesel also as I have seen difference with a oil pressure gauge fitted how they performed.
Better pressure when hot, engine running cooler and I also found engine quieter at start up and in generel

I've used RX Super in everything, petrol & diesel, for years... no probs, but as has been posted, Rick seems to be your man for solid info
