D4 Battery

Hi All,

I am soon to be the proud owner of a D4 (only 5 more sleeps) and have a question regarding flat batteries. A few of the RRS and D4's (mine included) at the dealership have had flat batteries. I assume this is from not locking the doors meaning the car is always searching for the smart key. Does this sound correct and if so have any of you had problems of batteries going flat. Does this also mean that if I wish to charge things with the car off I risk flattening the battery. In fact, now I think about it, with no key to put into an ignition switch, how do i get the accessories to come on without starting the car?

We are about to go on a camping trip and wonder if it would be smart to take a jump start battery along for good meassure?

Congrats you wont regret it.

At work we have the same problem.
The problem is leaving the door open for long periods of time with the key in the vehicle. You are right as the veicle keeps searching for the key & waiting for the start button to be pushed. Yes it cycles & wants a start.
Also we find that the lights are left on, the radio going flat out etc etc.

Once you have the vehile, things change as you are the only person looking at the vehicle & you wont be showing 40-50 people per day how it all works.
Eventually the battery says i have had enough & will need a charge.

To turn on the ignition ONLY dont touch the brake pedal in the start sequence.
Normally you would hold the brake pedal to start the vehicle, dont hold down the brake pedal & the instrument cluster will illuminate & tell you do hold brake pedal to start.

Thanks for the quick reply Sniegy. Didn't think it would be a problem. Just can't wait to take delivery. So many things to fiddle with. She certainly drives differently to my Calais but the versatility will soon make up for that, plus the gear changes are sooooo smooth and the car is incredibly quiet. Even the kids are excited, the 3 year old especially, she will now be able to see out the window.

Well not really,my "battery low start engine" indicator is a regular on screen
there does seem to be a constant drain on battery, take jump starter to be safe.

Roamer,
Get your battery charged fully.
Standard battery chargers will not fully charge one of these batteries as they are "Lead Calcium". These babies have a different charge strategy to a normal Lead Acid unit.
We have Matson & Traction Chargers which have the facility to change from LA to LC at the flick of a switch. Expensive yes, but Gee they bloody work well.

Well, I would have thought a $100k car wouldn't need to be on charge regularly:confused: my 30yr old VW doesn,t.
Has been charged with a LC charger, but low battery still reoccurs, there is a constant drain on it .
D4 is a great car ,unbelievable really, but with a flat battery, useless. :(
Take jump starter with you, or a LC battery charger and generator. :angel:

Australia seems to shows as being ROW on the GTR site,
and I know the battery problem is part of the assurance fix

I agree, Flat battery is a most annoying scenario.
Espeacilly when you pay that amount of money.:mad:

Australia is a ROW setting on GTR, Our vehicles are also set up on SDD on ROW, But we normally have our own Recalls, Service actions etc.
You will note that Most & not all of our actions are Australia specific. HTH

also one point,, if you need to jump start the car or charge it or anything with the battery, DOT NOT!!! put the negative terminal on the battery its self,, it need to be atleast .6m way from the battery on a earth point, we put it on the bolt for the bottom control arm as a good earth point, if you charge or jump the car with the NEG on the battery then yes it will stuff up the battery monitoring on the car and probly show a low battery warning,

all so they are a new glass crystal battery,, and need to be charged a certain way with certain chargers;)
