first post to a new forum,
I have just sold my GU Patrol and now want to setup a disco the same, unsure on whether to purchase a second hand 2.7, a new 2.7 or 3.0ltr
i will be fitting the following in one hit; bar, winch, UHF, long range tank, Rear wheel carrier, second spare, MTR tyres.

i do own a 3.3t boat though and unsure of the 2.7's capabilities

any advice would be appreciated

Tony

Yes the 2.7 would be fine, a 2.7 with a remap would be better, the 3.0TDV6 would be better still but with 18" rims the smallest you can go, I am not convinced the best of lower profile tyres will cope with aussie heat and corregations.

We towed a 3+ ton ATV van around Oz and managed to de-laminate several 18inch tyres. I now have 17" rims and LT construction tyres for towing the van.

Am still saving for my remap.

Actually, 19" is currently the smallest rim that will fit the 3.0 ltr

Yep 19s smallest, refer to the FAQ.

The 2.7 will do it but the 3.0 will do it easier. The 2.7 D3 at least will require some transmission mods -- forget what exactly have a search. Towing that amount is a big ask for any 4WD but it's possible.

I regularly tow a 22' Baroma caravan including a 13,000k trip over 3 months around Qld, NSW and the ACT without any problems – I bought the 2.7l D3 to tow the van – fuel consumption between 14 and 16l per 100k while towing. The van has an ATM of 3.5t and my wife does not like to go short while we are traveling! On another note - Getting the thing serviced anywhere except in the major cities is a major problem and will stop me buying another one as a lot more outback touring is on the cards.

be carefull.

check the towpack rating on the vehicle first. if the boat weighs 3.3T and the trailer ways 201kg or more (which Im tipping) then you may well be over the rated limit of the tow hitch.

but yes the 2.7 will nicely pull a 3.5t load just dont expect good 0-60 times or 110 up the hills

Probably would have applied to the Nissan too.

thanks for all the feed back.
the boat and trailer combined weigh 3.3t wet

i have decided to go with a D4 3.0ltr SE with rear diff lock, i am going to purchase this morning (if it is still there) will have to fit the 19" MTR's and wait for a ARB bull bar to be designed, apart from that looking forward to a new style of 4wding

and a new forum

Hope you got it ! W:)elcome to the forum. Made the same move a few months ago. Think ' new page ' and you will do fine. Everything is possible...just in a different way.

Hi Tony, good choice with the 3.0Lt. You also get the better auto.
I have just over 10,000Klm's on mine now and have noticed that the motor is lostening up nicely. The biggest thing I have noticed is the torque increase. The torque curve for the 3.0Lt is amazing.
Enjoy

Hi Tony, forgot to mention that with the 3.0 you also get the bigger better brakes. You may already know this. I have found them great in every day driving but an even bigger advantage towing. Good luck with the newy
