Rear Table/Kitchen

Hi all,

I saw this on the Defender2 website. Has anyone got one of these installed in their Puma? I really like the idea but wanted to know are the easily installed or if they rattle? Or are there other solutions?

id rather save your money man, the rear doors on fenders dont stay open very well even on flate ground, so you would have to get sumthing to lock the door open, ;);)

and it would rattle like hell,

I have just ordered a new "Gas Strut Kit" for the rear door of the D'fer. The kit is supplied by Mulgo, it has been my experience that their products are of very high standard.

It looks and sounds like just the ticket, as the gas strut is set up so it pushes the door open, should work well with the storage drawer or this table set up.

It replaces the factory arm at the bottom of the door

We had a fold down table on our old Disco. Being a bigger door,that actually stayed open, it was a very usefull table. It was made of timber and covered in marine carpet. Very handy.
I wouldn't have one on the Defender because of how narrow the door opening is.
Went to the Tinnie & Tackle show over the weekend and Opposite lock had a great stainless steel table that clips onto the outside above the rear wheel. Means having to connect the little recievers to the bodywork, but they are small and if colour coded wouldn't be noticeable.
Thats what I will be getting.

I have a Kaymar bar so I currently have no issue with the door stying open.;)

How do you know it would ratttle? Yours rattles? Your mates? Or just your thoughts?
I prefer to spend my money if accessories can make my life easier or safer...as long as they do what they are supposed to do!:) And when they don't, then I wish I would have saved my money! I do use this site to help my decision and I find it excellent!:) Thanks to all!:)

On a previous vehicle I used some ply with a piano hinge, and a couple of cords in place of those shiny stays. There was room for the 2 burner stove and a bit of spare room on the side(s).

mine rattles, and yes all my mates with fenders(including puma's) ratle a little bit,

its definitely a good idea and i can see it been good since i have a fridge in the back, and probably same with you, and would be good for making things up,

and id check to see how its mounted to the rear door,, the door trim its self is definitely not strong enough to hold that up on a bumpy road,

even so,, your still have a sick fender mate:cool:

I can't comment on the unit that you have pictured, but I can say that since fitting a fold down table on the back door, it gets used a lot on every trip we do. Anything from boiling the billy to preparing lunch etc. Obviously we carry a bigger table as well for setting up in camp, but the one on the door is very handy.
This one's made from 3mm aluminium and 6mm cutting board with stainless fishing traces holding it up.

I've got a homemade set up too which is similar to Murray's. Useful for cooking,washing up etc.

Mine doesn't rattle, although I wouldn't hear it anyway over the rattle of the Isuzu :D

They should not rattle if installed properly.

As for the door trim not being strong enough. A decent washer at the back should do the trick. Also you don't want put too much weight on that table anyway, so it should be all right.

The only thing you might want to consider as well is: The box shown in these pictures protrudes from the rear door, which then might interfere with any drawer/shelf system installed at the back.
An option could also be to install a fold down table only and not a box.

I will probably be installing a drawer/shelf system so will ster away from it.

A drop down table could be a new product line for you perhaps...?
