G'day All,
Was going through one of the threads on OL about a bloke who is looking at buying an LR....on about page 2 or 3 a link is posted showing LR's out and about...believe it or not...4WDing. Had a look at the link...one of Mrs HH's...it contains quite a few members on here and the comments made are unbelievable. I wonder if any of them actually go off road. They try to make it sound like these LR's are environmental hoons. Pretty poor really.....no wonder we stick together ( and fight amongst ourselves at times :D).
Here is the link... Overlander 4WD :: View topic - Im thinking of buying a Land Rover / Range Rover. any advise (http://forums.overlander.com.au/viewtopic.php't=64971&start=45&postdays=0&postorder=asc&highlight=) I've already had my say ,

geez just had a read through the whole thread. talk about mountains out of mole hills...or, bog holes out of paddocks? :p
If those blokes are up in arms over a bit of Land Rover action, i think their heads would explode if they ever stumbled across the outerlimits4x4 forums :lol2:

From that thread I think this should be read by all Toyota drivers who say we Land Rover drivers should buy a Toyota.

Worst situations? Hrm.
1.
2 month new Freelander, going down a way too steep and rutted hill up in Mt Mee, travelling solo. Knowing that as I was going down, no way of getting back out same way (dragging the underside as I went down). Getting bogged in some mud a little later, only just managed to get unstuck. So much for a 'relaxing mid-week day off work'. Learnt to (a) never take on something you can't get out of if solo and (b) take recovery gear (we had nothing except an esky).
2. Walking back to the Jeep on a track in LCMP and seeing coolant forming on the ground underneath it. False alarm, just a dodgy radiator cap letting go early, but I copped a bagging for the rest of the day about it . The real cooling problem arose some 14mths later when the water pump died 400kms from home the day before Xmas on a trip to see my parents.

After a weekend of 4wding, doing a burnout in wet grass
There was a sump height stump hidden in there
Yep, ripped it nearly clean off
A tube of silicon, and 8 litres of oil got me home 200 kms

One thing that I cannot understand is why you (Stevo) try to educate these people.
I would not last 1 day in that forum.
Then again you said what was appropiate and I hope that they are going to think and learn :)

Arrogance personified by Toyota..what beats me is that people fall for it all and keep buying Toyota's....especially here in Australia.Just goes to show what a lot of dollars can do when it's for advertising. The amount spent here in Australia alone is mind boggling.

The problem is that there are so many simple people that follow what John Laws said. He endorses Toyota, so it is good and the followers do not ask questions and buy it. :(

Hey Stevo do me a favour I am not on OL forum so can you post on there on my behalf.....
The video in question was taken on a sunny dry day...(and as you would know) Beerwah always has mud holes that never dry out and we just happened to film those.....the snatch at the beginning was done because we didn't want to destroy the track
hmmmm maybe not you will only fuel the fire I guess

Mrs hh:angel: Now you add that last bit...too late :), to be honest its not about winning an argument.....though those who have seen my work in the past...know I love a good debate . I am also a wee protective of my brotherhood as well......and in this case it is unfair commentary. Mind you, with the general LR stance over there..not unsurprising...not exactly an objective bunch. Though to be fair, quite a few are coming out and agreeing that the footage is pretty tame and reasonable...ie nothing they wouldn't have done themselves.
Plus they have their own characters as well...like we do here,

After reading through that lot, I get the distinct impression that at least one of those objecting to people using their 4WD's in wet conditions is a "Tag-along" tour type operator. :(
I have come across some of their type before - there seems to be a common belief amongst at least some of them that people with 4WD's should be allowed to use them off road only for legitimate work purposes - OR - to participate in (surprise, surprise) tours conducted by "accredited" tour operators. ;)
I must say that a similar mentality exists amongst some "driver trainers" that I have come across.
Not saying for a minute that all such tour operators (or driver trainers) have this attitude, but it is a pretty common one - with maybe a little bit of "self interest" at the root of their beliefs ????
I have come across one such "accredited" 4WD driving trainer and tour operator elsewhere, and a more know-it-all sanctimonious tosser you would be hard pushed to find. According to him, if you own a 4WD other than for work purposes, you should be compelled by law to attend "accredited" training and should ONLY be allowed into areas such as the Simpson, up to Cape York etc on organised tours conducted by "accredited" persons such as himself. I couldn't think of anything more boring. He also has been known to state in the past that he would rather people on his "tours" did not drive Landrovers, as these are the vehicles he has had to recover most.
Unfortunately, this pillock has recently been appointed a moderator on another 4WD forum - so this is the type of crap we are up against. :angrylock:
As said in the post you've been arguing in Stevo, if these muppets eventually get their way - time to sell the Disco and buy a boat. But then the "regulators" and "accredited trainers" in that area are getting to have just as much impact on people's lives as well. :D

I think I accidentally started that debate merely by posting a link to encourage the guy who was thinking about buying a Landy that they do go well. Unfortunately, I got jumped on by the PC brigade. Next time I'll think twice.
While some of them on OL are good, there are a few who are in total denial about Toyota's problems and feel obliged to attack everyone else, sometimes personally. Fairly pathetic, really.
Much appreciate the support from Steve, Tombraider etc.

Further to the above I attach a clipping from todays Brisbane Courier Mail. This $10 million is just for one sport..AFL Imagine the total Oz wide.
The spit from Toyota is interesting for I have still to see an apology from them when they made an outlandishly untrue statement a few years back about Toyotas building the Snowy River Scheme when in fact there were only 2 (on trial ) toyotas used as against over 400 Land Rovers.
Did anyone see an apology for their blatantly screwing the truth?

There was actually 13 LC's used on the snowy scheme against 1346 LR's.The first LC's arrived around 1960,the first were made in '58 and there is only one known photo of an LC that worked at the snowy and it was taken in Cooma's main street,LR photo's are easy to find. Pat

Very interesting stats those, as I've heard the 'Toyota built the Snowys scheme' claim, known it wasn't true and wondered how to prove that. Is there an online source somewhere you could provide a link too?
