I’ve redone a lot of the electric in the TD5 defender including taking any earth wires attached to the body back to a direct earth wire to the battery.

When I relocated the ECU etc from under the driver’s seat to under the cubby box I noted that the ABS controller is earthed to the supporting screw. But the fuse box has an earth wire back to the battery or chassie. Haven’t checked where it earths too, but defiantly earthing separately outside the compartment.

Is there any reason why I can’t take the ABS to the fuse box earth and have one earth for both units?

I dont see why not earth is earth generally speaking, make sure you use the same sized wire or slighly larger as was originally on the units if you intend on extending the wire,if you use a ring teminal use one has a fair bit of meat on the ring to provide a good contact.

if you are really keen on doing your earths properly...

sand back a rectangle of ally somwhere or on the fire wall and secure a bus block to it mark and drill though all the screw holes and then enlarge them from the other side of the mounting metal.

using a burr every time to remove the paint from the non bus bar side of the holes secure your earth leads to the metal using star washers and screwing through the eyelet on the earth side and the star washer 4into the bus block. Take a nice fat lead back from the bus bar side to the battery.

If you want to get really pedantic about it that is..

most time simply securing all the earths to the same point or sheet of metal with the paint buffed off and a star washer is enough.

once you have your connection made spray it with the yellow battery terminal protector spray.
