What goes wrong in a D3 with 300,000Km plus? There's a few reps vehicles coming on to the market now, seemingly at a good price ........... but what will I have to pay for later?

How long is a piece of string?

Will depend a heap on the service history and what has been maintained. I'd imagine at 300,000k plus wear on more obscure items would start becoming evident. Less common, harder to get to... costs would generally be much higher than normal.

If the vehicle checks out mechanically, is priced extremely well, still could be good value. Be prepared to sell it down the track very cheap though.

All depends on what you consider a good price..... there are plenty out there with a third of that milage (for a similar age I would imagine) at what I consider a good price......

Under $30,000 for 2.7tdv6. What do you consider a good price? Where do you find them?

for 10K more you can get them with less than half the km's. just have to be patient.

At 300,000 I would be planning on replacing at least the transmission and turbo and be prepared for some big maintenance costs.

OK - thanks for the feedback. I think I will be looking for something with a few less K's.

Hi Owl, you will find that ex reps cars are normally serviced as per Landrovers service intervals, but they are driven harder than if it was their own. After owning vehicles with up to 400,000 Klm's on them, I am a firm believer that using a really good oil and changing it regularly (along with filter) it so important.

Thanks to all the input - I did decide to spend a little more and have just picked up my new (for me) Disco 3 HSE 2.7L TDV6 with 90,000Km. This should be a better proposition. I've stepped out of a 20 year old GQ Patrol into this - talk about chalk and cheese!

So now the fun begins - bullbar, winch, tyres, rear storage, roofrack, lights, radios ......... (where does it stop?)

:D I nearly bought that one but couldn't get them to negotiate to the price that I wanted and then the one I ended up buying popped up on car sales two days later. It drove very well - well done
