Topping up the fuel in the new D4 today to run some fuel consumption figures for a while and noticed that on the fuel flap is a warning saying every 1000km the water trap should be checked/emptied - See the owners manual for more information.

Open the owners handbook and find the relevant section.... says :

If the message WATER IN FUEL SEE
HANDBOOK is displayed in the message
centre, an excessive amount of water has
collected in the fuel filter bowl. This excess
water needs to be drained from the filter. Seek
assistance from a Land Rover Dealer/
Authorised Repairer as soon as possible.

Now this should be easy enough to do yourself. Problem is, WHERE is the fuel filter/water trap? Unless somebody has a picture, I guess it's off to the dealer for the info.

Unless I am mistaken, not having seen a D4 setup, it's at the base of the fuel filter. Generally a plastic fitting with a plug on it. Remove the plug, unscrew a turn or two and the fuel/water will drainout. No different to any other type of filter separator.

Cheers

I assumed it would be on the end of the fuel filter, more annoyed at the warnings saying it need draining and to refer to the manual which says a buzzer/light will go on and see a dealer. On my disco I, we fitted a glass bowl trap in place of the original LR filter and it was simple to see/find.

I have not had time to crawl around the engine bay or under the car yet so have no idea where the fuel filter is either - better stop being lazy I guess.

Oh, the owners handbook says the fuel filter is a service item and... (wait for it..) see you LR dealer!

When you open the bonnet, you are greeted by a sea of black plastic covers so I'd guess it would be in there somewhere.

I would assume that it's still at the back near the tank but could be wrong. Generally because of return lines etc this is the usual place.

I'll have a play tomorrow if it's not raining. Days off have come around again - the joy's of 3on/3off shifwork- so I'll have a look and see.
