hi all,

I've just travelled down the path of upgrading my headlight wiring. I had a set of IPF headlight inserts in the shed so i thought i'd fit them to my '97 110 wagon. I figured a headlight upgrade would be in order. I purchased a new high low switch, and got the wire, connectors and relays through work. i used the wiring diagram via the traxide website. Wiring is all done and the headlights work with one exception, if i turn the headlight to high beam, all good, but as soon as i flick it back to low beam, both high and low beam are one together. If i turn the lights back to park then back to on its all ok until i hit high beam again. I'm sure i've followed the wiring diagram correctly, and i've checked and rechecked. Have i missed something simple?

Hi, Carvin. You don't say why you had to replace the switch. Was the replacement a direct like for like swap ? Which Traxide wiring diagram did you use ?

I replaced the switch with a brand new one for this particular vehicle. The wiring diagram i used was the defender headlight - driving light combo wiring upgrade from the traxide website. I intend to disconnect the wiring and plug the lights into the original harness and see what happens. If it is still occuring i know that it is something to do with the car's original wiring, rather than my own. On the other hand if the lights work fine then it's my stuff up and i can go back over it all and try again.

Hi all,

An update on my headlight upgrade. A mate with a bit more electical knowledge sorted it out for me. It boiled down to me not using my eyes or intelligence. I incorrectly wired the relay feed wires at the back of the headlight. I had the high beam feed switched with the earth (i'm an idiot) and consequentially it would loop back on itself, but low beam would work fine. Anyway, all's well in the end, and it only took and hour and a half to figure out!
