View Full Version : 130 tub top complete looks great

Today i went to see Brad at West Coast Marine Fabrication to have the final fitting of the tub top.
Boy did those guys do a top job beautifully stitched custom built tub top for the existing 130 tub.
the gas struts that Brad uses are gassed for the job specification, so initially they were wacked up to 400nm with the potential to be re-gassed should the need arise - which nearly happened when i was going to have the spare-spare wheel on the rear (so one on the front and one on the rear- retrospectivley i reckon its not the way to go) I didn't want to ruin the nice finish of the tub top in the end.
The sides are all folded in a press with the material being 4mm Ali on an Ali ladder frame which is welded underneath .
It has stainless steel latches and hinges custom made for the job to add a little extra security.
To finish the job i still want to spray on tub liner to the inner walls of the tub and have Brad make a chequerplate floor to re-inforce the original, and with the addition of some LED strip lighting it should look beaut.
Regards Andy.
P.s. better pics tomorrow

Lardy,
Out of interest, how much?

How do you put a 44 of boat fuel in the tray now? ;)
Looks schmick!

I could see having a spare wheel bracket as being very handy when on a trip, maybe some gardening implement brackets as well as some tie downs. Can have straps and all recov gear attached and ready to go.

But what it REALLY needs is one of those big rear wings you see on Maloo utes with hard covers ;) A 130 needs downforce.

It would cost around $2.7 to reproduce, but with additions more obviously just because it would take more labour time and grey matter time.

Regards andy.

You buy a trailer ????
I am getting cargo rails attached later the type that gives you the ability to latch on all the way down the cover.

As for the rear downforce spoiler i just don't have enough Bogan in me to pull that off
Am also thinking of binning the Oztent for a roof tent as it would be great for reducing the drag fuel economy issues, also i am going to have canvas made up to attach to the sides of the elivated top so as to produce an emergency sleep out tent with an annex to keep the dogs in ...may just dump the roof tent thinking about it lol

Is the manky canopy you refer to the original canvas ? If so, is it still in usable condition, and is it for sale ? My canvas got ripped to shreds in strong wind and I'm trying to decide wether to replace the canvas (quickest, easiest option), or build a hard canopy for it (another project I don't have the time for)

Also, where do you intend to carry your spare wheel now? I happen to know someone on here who has just designed and built a swing away carrier to suit 130 tubs ;)

Great looking cover:) very good idea. As far as rear wheel carriers go i have been looking for a while and came across a front runner one spacifically for the 130, should be available quite soon here in Oz From Opposite Lock??. I saw it in a South african 4x4 mag in february. Dont know much more than that I am affraid.
Cheers Mal

This is the carrier I've just built to suit a 130 with the original tub. I'm taking it to get powder coated shortly, so when I get it back I'll probably post a thread on the whole project with some good pics.

Cheers, Murray

Looks good Brad (the fabricator) and I had discussed going for something similar but thought that it would be prudent to spread the anchor load across the rear cross member oppossed to just the corner due to the stresses involved.
How do you find it anchored off the one point do you percieve any issues with that ?
Regards Andy.

This has turned into a bit of a thread hijack........sorry about that.

The full weight of the carrier is only on the outside of the chassis when in the open position. In the closed position, the weight is shared between the main mounting bracket and a locator which is bolted to the center plate of the tow bar assembly.
The main mounting bracket of a well known brand of carrier doesn't actually cover the full height of the chassis (wagon version, but similar). I make my brackets the full height of the chassis and I've come up with a different type of backing plate which sort of wraps around the chassis to make use of the horizontal parts of the chassis. I'll post pics of the 130 mounting bracket when I get a chance. It's similar to the wagon version below, but it has two wrapped brackets.

Thanks Andy,
I'll keep an eye on it. A bit concerned about the 'very dirty' description.
