View Full Version : Pitting in Windscreen after Hail damage???

I took my wife's Falcon in to be assessed for hail damage.
Her car's windscreen has a lot of small pitting on it
It was not there before the hail storm. Considering my wife is fastideous with keeping her windscreen clean. After the hail storm she noticed the windscreen as covered with little minute pits.
When I pointed them out to the accessor he told me they were stone chips.
Since my wife doesn't do county miles and all these chip are in her line of vision she would have noticed them before .
The assessor reckons that when we run our finger nail over them and the nail grabs them , so they are stone chips and ice doesn't leave this sort of mark!.
My wife doesn't like being insinuated that she was lying. She knows they were not there before

HI
I am in the same boat! I have a 4 month old Mazda CX7 and today I took my car for assessment and was told the same thing. Like your wife I am very anal with my windscreen and my vehicle and can tell you exactly what scratches, marks etc are there, and I will tell you the 100s chips in my windscreen were not there before the hail!!! if it is stone chips like they suggested why isn't my bonnet or panels around the windcreen chipped!??? As I do work in the automotive market I have contacted my windscreen guy who also confirmed this as " Bull****!" further more I have rang another windscreen mob and they have also confirmed my theory! So on the principal I am taking this further. I really don't care about the $139 a new windscreen will cost me but I hate to be called a lair! Please let me know how you go and I will also keep u updated! GOod luck and dont give up!!!

The windscreen on my wife's car is not an issue as the body damage made it a total loss. but your right about being inferred as a liar by the assessor. It's not a nice feeling.
