We installed crystal type head lights in the 130 project we did late last year. There are lots of different vendors for these type of light, some cheaper, some more expensive. I have also used these on my own Defender and they are excellent. See page 31 of the project below.

I've installed a similar light (no LED around the diameter) with their HID high/low kit.

Mine has the LED bulb in the traditional lens position.

I found the lights themselves well made however the two screws holding the two legs of the inner lens were exactly where the rubber boot sits therefore it can't seal against the back of the lens.

Also I'm having trouble "aiming" the light. Now this may be because of the HID bulb slightly out of alignment with the low beam bulb. Or it could be the magnifier.

I'll be having a good go at aiming in the next week or two.

At this stage if I went again I'd leave out the magic prism as it hinders sealing and I believe aiming the light.

I found the supplier good to deal with.:)

The HIDs I used are the solenoid type with a single filament. To fit these meant removing the central reflector device supplied with the crystal lights. This is common practice when using this type of HID, as they have this inbuilt and the globe will simply not fit otherwise.

The globes I used had no adjusting screws. The lights were adjusted the same way the originals were adjusted - by the screws on the outside of the glass surround. I also set up the lights using the light adjusting equipment at the mechanics workshop across the road.

As for the HID lights with oncoming traffic, we tried this out a number of times using 2 vehicles. Low beam is very good but on high beam, that's another story.

As for the rubber boot over the lamp holder - there was no way of making the original one fit as the hole in the center was way too small. I improvised.

Another reason for having airbags in the springs is to keep the lights pointing in the correct height position, when going on holidays. We always inflate the airbags to a preset height on the back bumper (normally 15 - 25 psi), just before leaving home, fully loaded and with the boat attached. We again deflate them to about 7psi when we are back from holidays.

Please ask if you have any questions. It appears that you have gone with a dual filament HID setup rather than the solenoid type. I have no experience with these.
