I know there have been many threads regarding front recovery hooks..
I have just purchased some 4x4 intelligent front hooks for my d2a.
I dont as yet have a bull bar, so still have the standard bumper.
I'm going to have to cut the bumper by the looks of it to make them fit/protude through.
As anybody done this yet, as I'm trying to work out a template or something similiar to decide where to cut thru the bumper.
thanks

I too have fitted the same recovery points. All I did was take the front bumper plastic off the car and leave the steel backing plate in place.
Only a temporary fix but it does give you a much better aproach angle until the bullbar is on.

dont bother with a template mate just hold it up n see what looks good n cut it!!!!
I butchered mine but the bar was stuffed before i started! it only needs a shave off the hole for the tow hook.,

Thanks for the photo kid.
Now I have some idea of how far it sticks out, an where.
I'm actually going to try and fit the drivers side first, as it looks easier.

I have a D2a and have done exactly what you're proposing. It looks very neat. I painted them black before installing them and you can hardly tell they are there. I guess it depends on if you want to draw attention to them or not!
I installed the anchors while the bumper was off then held the bumper up to the anchors and marked where to cut. I found I had to cut a slot for the anchor to poke through then had to cut a bit of a scallop either side of the slot to allow the D shackle to move freely when pulling at different angles.
It works really well. I took some photos, I'll try and find them.
Cheers,

I think all recovery points should be painted red ... some clubs insist on this rule too.

This looks like the type of thing I am looking to add to my D2 (pre facelift). What are these hooks called or known as so I can do a search for where to buy them. Also do they bolt into existing holes in the chassis or are they welded on?

They bolt onto the existing chassis rails.
Can be fitted to non bullbar vechicles, just need to cut out thru the bumber to accomodate the hooks to stick out.
They around 110 delivered, come with longer M12 bolts to accomodate the longer length required.
Note the original bolts are only M10!
So bigger bolts is also a plus. They are rated at 10000lbs each.
