Well I did a Ron last Sunday and had something break:(

My favourite lens: 24-70mm f/2.8G Nikkor :BigCry::BigCry:

It was on the D3s and in the padded camera bag when it fell about 18" to the floor. Not a bad drop it kind of slide off the shelf to the floor more than fell.

When I went to get the camera out of the bag the body came out and the lens stayed behind :eek2:

Attached to the body was the lens' mounting ring and the aperture arm and a gasket. I was able to remove this from the camera by pressing the lens release button and twisting. Inspection of the camera didn't show any damage. Looked like the screws on the lens had pulled free with the mount, with at least one screw stripping the thread in its the hole entirely :BigCry:

Anyway camera body would appear to be OK, shot over 200 images (some at 9fps) that afternoon and changed the lenses four times.

So yesterday it was call the insurance, call Nikon and pack it up. Posted off today to get a quote on repairs and that will determine whether its fix or replace.

:BigCry: :BigCry: :BigCry:

The lens cost is about $2000 or more. It is one of the best optics from Nikon and a great lens for the D3
I hope that you get a replacement.

Cheers

An update on the lens...

Posted it off yesterday via AusPost Platinum service so it was traceable. Should get to Sydney Thursday. Checked the mail this afternoon to find it had flown to Darwin last night and back again this morning - WHAT! Anyway PO here was just as confused as everything was in order so they're asking questions and trying to get it couriered. I'm also hoping for a refund on the postage as it was not what was promised.

Isn't digital photography wonderful. There are somethings that technology really has made better. Whilst film will still make better images it really is an expensive medium to use and especially to experiment with. Digital is perfect for this though. I'm always learning:D

And a little more than that :BigCry:

Not only is it a good lens on the D3s it's a good lens on a D90, D200, D60 too. If it had VR as well it would be perfect.
