Hey Paul,

Been meaning to ask and also generate some interest for HRA....

I just want to know how much of my pocket money I need to start putting away for those 2" air bag spacers. An est. range between 2 X $100 marks would be good (e.g. $100-200) if you can't get any closer yet. ;)

I have a pretty strong feeling that if my guinea pigging with the stock suspension on the pretty pig works out OK, you guys are gonna have a few orders for this as a HRA intermediate lift kit (intermediate versus the 5" whole hog one).

For curiousities sake, anyone else interested in a P38 air bag spacer 2" lift?

Hoo-Roo, Dave.

Hi Dave

We are certainly intending for the spacers to be less than $100 per corner... much, much less ($50?) if we can get some volume with the fabricator(s).

Extended bump stops (approx $30 ea) need to be installed at the same time as the spacers.

The problem with fiting the spacers without the modified shocks is going to be reaching the open limit of the shocks much sooner. Standard shocks have about 200mm of travel at the front and about 160mm at the rear.

Air springs (3" extra travel) won't be a problem until you fit the longer shocks, or lowering the brake lines.

... now back to making up those EAS cables. a bit of therapy for a quiet Saturday morning ;)

Cheers, Paul.

FWIW ... EAS sensor leg extensions and issues re. exceeding UJ drive angle limits also need some consideration...don't know if a double cardan driveshaft is available for the P38 but would be worth following up! :D

I've got the sensor leg extensions too but haven't need them yet :D

Tom Wood does a double cardan for the P38A, and my friendly LR mechanic reckons he could fit one from a D2.

That all sounds pretty good, put me down for production pack #1 please!!! :)

He's in the USA and makes stuff for LRs. See http://www.4xshaft.com/Landrover.html

A 2" spacer kit from Arnotts in the USA is US$52 for the 4 spacers.

See 2 in. Aluminum Spacers for 1995-2002 (4.0 and 4.6) P38A Range Rover (http://www.arnottindustries.com/part_LAND_ROVER_Air_Suspension_Parts_yid4_pid22_gi d301.html)

You may need the bump stops:

as a very rough rule of thumb when asked I generally quote at $750 per inch of lift.

I source most of my stuff from either MR auto OR suspension stuff when Im using that rule.

Ron - those spacers won't work on an EAS enabled Rangie. They are for the coil conversion kit.
...and those bumps are for a non-lifted EAS setup.

Dennis at Rover Renovations is putting a kit together too.

Cheers, Paul.

Hey guys!

Would i be right in saying that you can not fit the spacers only? I.e. because the shocks will decintergrate(probably not that dramatic but with the rangie who knows)?

Can you fit the extended shocks with the spacers and then some way down the track fit the extended springs? can you do it that way?

RAZ
p.s. I have attached a picture of my friendly mechanic "Indy" helping me with the rangie!!

Yep, I wouldn't recommend fitting the spacers without the shocks for fear of extending them too much.

You could fit the spacers and shocks, and do the bags later... but then I'd be wary of extending the old bags too much...

Safest bet is to swap over the bags first. You won't extend anything beyond spec. Then add spacers and shocks together.

I did some playing around with the height settings on mine today (33" tyres on, so approx 50mm taller anyway)...
height @ Access = 1820mm, and approx 20mm off bumps
height @ Low = 1855mm
height @ Normal = 1910mm
height @ High = 1950mm

Max attempted height = 1970mm, then the bags were looking a bit stretched.

Standard P38A height with stock tyres should sit at approx 1817mm on Normal height... -65 on Access, -25 on Low, + 40 on High).

Cheers, Paul.

Hi Paul
what are you measuring to get 1820mm? just curious

Good point Hoges... I put a straight piece of board across the top of the car (no racks), jutting out about 200mm, and measured the distance to the ground from the bottom of the board.
Cheers, Paul.
