Could someone please take some pictures of the centre front seat - in particular the mounting of it.

It looks like I don't have any mounting points to put mine in, and it also looks like the two front seats are too close together to fit the new seat in ;)

Thankyou
Chris

I'm trying at the moment, but I seem to be running out of room. I'll take some photos and show you what I mean.

P.S - that link is to this thread?

Has anyone got any idea what is going on in my pictures?

I'm starting to think that either the centre seat is too big, or the Defender I have isn't suited to a centre seat? However there is points in there for the seatbelts, so it's definitely got me confused.

Problem is I need that extra seat no later than May, so I'm starting to worry a little.

Cheers
Chris

To me, your centre seat looks out of proportion.
Mine is around 380mm wide across the widest part of the backrest. Yours looks over 400mm. (but I could be wrong).
Another thing to look at is your drivers seat mountings appear to be different to mine. Are they in the correct mounting holes? Could the seats be moved closer to the doors?

Seat is 390mm wide across that back. There's 370mm between the two front seats - measured on the backrest at the lower part - the narrowest gap.

I can definitely move the passenger seat, but I might struggle with the drivers seat. I can do it and it'd line me up with the steering wheel then - but I think I'll be sitting with my right shoulder hard against the 'b' pillar.

Any thoughts?

My outside seats are about 895mm apart (centreline to centreline).
That is what you need to get close to.
Apart from moving the seats, I don't know what else to do.
good luck.

I was looking at the 'good oil' section and realised that I never did come back to this thread. I apologise for that!

There is a full write up at: 4WD'ing – The family way | Get on out there!!! (http://www.cewilson.offroader.com.au) under the topic Defender - the job was done in conjunction with sealing the floor, laying form-ply and adding carpet.

But basically I moved the two seats outboard to fit the centre seat in properly. Because of the form-ply and carpet it actually raised the seats slightly as well. The seating position isn't too bad, although I'm probably used to it now. I would probably have problems with it if I was a bigger fella though.

Overall it was a very worthy modification that was done with some great help from people on this site.

Cheers
Chris
