Hot Pixel

This is how looks a hot pixel in an image.
In this case is on the sensor of a Nikon D300s :(
To be able to see them you have to inspect the image at 100% and scan it section by section.
Dark BG helps.

I am sending my Nikon for repair under warranty, it have only 550 shots.
They have to replace the sensor.

i'd be stunned if they do... i guess they will map them out like they normally do. hot pixels are a natural thing to happen. sucks i know but thats generally accepted now...

Does the camera not have a user accesible hot pixel mapping system? as im pretty sure thats all nikon will do.

I think that Nikon will map out the pixel for me.

i guess it saves you doing it... but im surprised its not built in?

The pentax k20 and later all have hot pixel mapping built into them. it takes a dark frame shot and then analyses the picture. it then maps the hot pixel out and recovers the information from the surrounding pixels. This is all done by selecting a menu item by the user...

Maybe the sensors are just a bit more prone on the pentax :p

It is a Sony sensor on the Nikon D300s.
I like to be sure about the sensor before start mapping it.
There are software ready available to map raw images but the people from Nikon Qld would like to see the camera and there are possibilities that may have to send it to Sydney.
Is a new camera and I guess that is good idea to use the warranty just to be sure ;)
