Is it just me or does anyone else think this is funny?
And is that inappropriate?

What I want to know is how a wombat bit the old man on the arm?
Unless of course the old man stood on it and fell over, in which case the wombat was protecting itself against an attacker
It'sNotWorthComplaining!

Headline reads, Wombat mauls bush fire survivor.
What about "Bushfire Survivor wombat" mauls bush fire survivor.
The poor little blighters were also effected by what happened, and if it is suffering from pain of course it will retaliate. It's only a natural reaction.
We encroach on animals environments and when they have a go back on us, the media uses words like attacked by, mauled by.
some how wombat bites bush fire survivor is sensationalist enough.
"Bush fire survivor hacks native animal with Axe after native animal bites him"

I was amused right up to the bit where they killed the poor wombat... With an axe!!! WTF... Wombats can be a belligerent and territorial thats who they are and why I like them. Even if it had mange surely there was a better option than an axe. I live really close to where these fires were and these poor animals copped it too. Surely a fellow survivor would have a smidge more compassion.
My two cents...

It's not what you expect first thing in the morning as you are getting out of your caravan/tent
Didn't realise it had been killed! Can't imagine them being either fast moving or ferocious.....

Reminds me of the time I was camping with friends in the high country and one of the girlfriends was keen to see a wombat. Went out looking with torches and located a wombat at which it freaked out and ran at the girlfriend (the one keen to see one in the bush) and rammed her shines and then ran off into the bush.
She didn't want to go looking anymore after that...

I feel sorry for both the combatants/victims but I have to admit, I laughed. It seems somewhat Pythonesque.

Well,
All my friends thaught it terrifically funny when I went base over apex in a wombat hole on Sunday night.
I nearly spilled my beer, and my knee, elbow and face all look a bit second hand.
I reckon if the incumbent had have poked his hairy little nose out, he wouldve had some explaining to do.....

I'm disgusted that the wombat was killed, tbh the guy who stepped on it needs the same treatment, ffs, i can spot a damned bearded dragon basking on my front steps, how the hell do you miss a bloody wombat?????
god, give me an axe handle i'll happily bash both the old fart and the wombat murderer myself, see how they like it
disgraceful

FFS - How can you not get away from a wombat? They aren't exactly fast moving...
Poor thing. :(

Camped at Geehi down near Khancoban and had one run in the front door of my tent and out the back door - lucky they were open at the time, after knocking over the stove, a box of food and a bag of clothing. There were heaps of them there. The arae along the river looked like a bomb testing range with the number of burrows dug by them. Judging by the grunts and noises in the night I am sure thay were pretty territorial and did not mind defending their bit of turf from other wombat suitors.
Don't fool yourselves, they can get up a good head of steam when they want to get going.
Worked on a property which had a permit to cull some wombats as their numbers had exploded and let me tell you they take some stopping even with a centrefire rifle. Would have been a better option than an axe

Id have killed the stinky bastard too if it was having a chop at anyone wombats can be verry agro and they dont like ferrets ive had a few episodes with them whilst ferreting bunnies and they are no way a slow moving animal.
Ive seen the buggers do major dammage to cars and get up and run away they sure are tough buggers and would sure take some killing with an axe .
