Split trans case - 2003 TD5 Disco

The 2003 TD5 Disco II (aka 'the poltergeist') started spraying trans fluid all over rear window, tailgate, (and unfortunate cars behind us) about a month ago. Got it into trans guy today (used before, have confidence). After a thorough check (but hasn't pulled trans out yet) his diagnosis is cracked case (to be confirmed if/when box is pulled).

So the questions are:

Anyone copped this before?
Any idea of options?
Any thoughts on wreckers / suppliers who may carry a 2nd hand case?

Trans guy said fluid (what was left!) was clean and un-burnt, so prognosis is good for transmission internals.

All advice / thoughts welcome.

Hi Alan,

DiscoDan on this forum had something similar to this happen to his 1999 TD5 Disco automatic. It turned out to be the nut holding on of the transmission fluid pipes going to or from the transmission cooler had unwound itself, or the mechanic hadn't done it up properly in the first place. Tran. fluid all over the road and rear window.

So before you go to the trouble and expense of having the transmission out check all the pipe work from the transmission to the cooler at the front of the car under the radiator and the return pipes. You might be fortunate and only need to tighten a nut or replace a ruptured pipe.
