Hi guys,

Been a while - I've been grappling with house rennovations and rebuilding my old Merc, so the Rangie has been in the background (but don't tell her that!).

My insurance is about to renew and I've been quoted over a grand - I live in Melbourne and do approx 10,000 k's a year, a grand seems a bit excessive (Budget Direct)

Anyone know of a better alternative with a decent insurer?

Jonathan

BTW, sorry to have missed the big get-together

Hi Poleonpom, try racv, I have found them to be pretty good price wise.
Many insurance places have on line pricing now, saves all the phone calls when shopping around, would be worth a look around as they can vary a lot.
Good luck!

I've got 2 with AAMI . Don't know if it's cheaper in Tassie but the 96 is $532 and the 97 is $575. Agreed value on the 96 is $14000 and the 97 is market value at $11800.
Rating one plus a couple of other vehicles and house and contents with them probably helps a bit.:)

Try an insurance brokers. All my insurances (bar one) are with the one broker. I find they have access to other insurance companies who don't deal with the public.
(I have my Mercedes insured with Shannons)

Thanks guys,

I'm going to shop around -

I'm in my 40's with a clean licence and rating 1, no accidents ever and clocking less than 10k a year - I must be an insurance company's wet dream, surely

Insurance premium price is not soley based on age, driving history etc. The Post Code of where the vehicle will be based also comes in to effect. A high general theft incidence post code area will be more expensive than a general low theft incident post code area.

Wrong.
An insurance company's wet dream is how much money you're prepared to hand over. If you have an incident, they don't pay up anyway. There's always some clause.

Not true.

I have had cause to claim twice in the last three years. Insurance co support has been A!. CGU, thru a broker, if anyone wants to know. $463.55 per annum.

Willem does Geelong rate as country (i.e. reducing rate) or something? CGU will be getting a call from me tomorrow!

The brokers are Waterhouse Walsh Kirtley, in Geelong. 5229 6008. For those who worry about these things, I have no pecuniary interest in this at all.

I don't think a direct call to CGU will get a comparable rate.

The fact that I have a number of other insurances with them may have a bearing on the matter.

The figure I gave was for a 99 P38 with $400 excess, for the 09/10 year - due to expire in August.

Mines thru R.A.C.V.
$480.36 for a '99 P38 agreed value of $15,000 ?? garaged in country, full noclaim bonus and R.A.C.V. Gold member $ 400 excess. could have shopped around for better price but I'm happy

Sounds a bit ripe to me... I'm under 25, have a rating 1 and never been in an accident. I'm paying $700 per annum for a 2000 RR HSE which is garaged and has a $400 excess... That's with Suncorp too! Surprising really! Agreed value is $18 000.

Hi Poleonpom,
I have multiple insurance policies with one company SGIO in my case, home contents, P38, D3, C/T and my daughters Getz, I'm in my fifties, clean licence and one insurance claim on my D3 when it met an unfortunate end a year and a half ago, total write off, full pay out. I have that no claims for bonus for the life of the policy deal, I pay $568 on the new 2005 D3 TDV6SE and $498 on the P38A. Hope this helps you.
