Hi all, I have a TD5 in a wolf chassis. When I let my foot of the clutch it feels like it slams at the last moment. About 50 000kms ago it did the same thing. I took it to Peter the Roving Landy Mechanic in Sydney and he jumped under the car with a huge spanner and 2min later he appeared and said it was fixed and said I had to get the nuts tightened every 20000kms (A Defender thing he said). Well now its doing it again though I cant remember what he tightened. Would any one have any idears?
I wish I could give you more info but Peter the Roving Landy Mechanics on holidays. Lucky him.
Thanks Chris

Engine or gearbox mounts or both. They are the round double rubbber things between the chassis & gearbox & engine.
Possibly ruptured. Try levering the engine up to see if they are.
If they have nylock nuts they usually stay tight.

He would have tightened, or checked, just about every single nut and bolt associated with any part of the suspension.

Quite possibly the big nuts on the rear suspension trailing / radius arms were loose causing backlash.
Backlash could be caused by anything from suspension mounts loose / worn to worn out axle splines and just about everything in between.

Ill pass it onto the mechanic at Freemans Reach near the Colo. Thats where I dumped my car after it caught fire two days ago. I had the battery out to start the boat and threw it back in and didnt secure it properly. I was driving along and flames started coming out from the hand break. The battery had bounced against the body of the car and the current went through the hand break cable and melted it in half. Bummer : ) We had a good two day lilo trip though floating down the river.
So ill get him to check out this clutch noise also. thanks guys

check the big nut on the output flange of the gearbox. you have to take the rear prop shaft of to tighten it but these have a habit of coming loose. oil leak at the handbrake can be a tell tale.
