Who did this sneaky Swing Arm?

Just saw this picture on HardRange.com site and was wondering if anyone knows who did it or how to do it? That is, sneek a pivot point for a swing arm through between the bumper and trim.

Or is it just an antenna mount? It looks like a swing arm carrier to me, but that may be wishful thinking!

As that appears to be either PaulP38A's RR, it was probably either him or Hardy Neale.

It looks like Qld rego so probably Hardy.

Do you know where it came from? Who made it? It's the sort of simple set up I have been looking for for round town... even if its not tough enough for off road, I would happily put spare back on roof or in car (maybe like clarks upright mount) for trips.

That's now on my car with a spare mounted on it.

A couple of comments:



It has quite a welded structure underneath it, bolted to the chassis.
The mount thru the bumper bar is a PITA to get right. Access to the nuts underneath is quite restricted.
Fabricating the latch point, even with the bits and pieces Paul gave me, was quite a job.
The swing arm mount itself is a bit flexi -the wheel can move a bit, backward and forwards. Not a lot, but I would have preferred something a bit more rigid.
The pic that Ron posted, tho on the same car, is a different swing arm/ mount than this one. I have the bits for that, too ... but chose not to use it.

So I cobbled the bits together ... but it all works and its all good. But if I had the cash I'd rather go and buy one!

Willem, Thanks for the info and offer to have a look... perhaps we might catch up at Aussie's trip or if I get down to Cat Land sometime! I think you've answered the query for me, in that it sounds like it was a one off item. I was hoping someone may have the template & time and just be trickling them out of their shed... like my old grandpa used to say, "wish in one hand and spit in the other, then see which one gets full first." :D Another handful of spit I guess! I just looked in the shed and I have the swing arm and the swivel point that mounts on the bumper bar - the bits you can see in Ron's pic. I don't know if there was support structure underneath the bumper bar - in any case I don't have it. The bits that I have are quite serviceable.

If they are of use to you you can have them. Its better that they are out there being used than cluttering up my shed! :)

I quite often see a Red P38 driving down the Nepean Hwy on my way home from work. Its got the best Swing arm wheel carrier I have ever seen. It almost looks like a standard RR product (if they ever made one) I was trying too get a pic of it the other day but he was in the far right lane and I couldnt catchup too get a pic with the phone. I'll keep trying.

Its here anytime you want it Dave. I won't be going on Aussie's trip - just not enough time/ money at present. What part of Melbourne are you? My daughter lives in Mooroolbark and we are up that way from time to time. I could bring it up if you're not too far away.

Thanks again for the wheel carrier arm Willem. I will keep you informed as to how it progresses when I get time to spec up the mounts and get the money together to get it all fabricated!
