Hi Guys,

Is there a difference between the Defender and 110 bonnets? are they interchangeable?

I would like to get a spare mount bonnet for my 110 (county). Just wondering if I can replace the bonnet in one go rather than swapping the bits over and being left with one effectively ruined bonnet with holes in it...

Cheeeers,

Our son AndrewE put a Puma bonnet on his Isuzu County (early and late 110's), so I guess they are interchangable.

Nothing much has changed in 60 years so I would guess so...my Series 3 looks like it will fit on the 03 fender:D

Thanks guys.

For some reason I thought that the later ones may have a different latch or something.

There are two different types of bonnet stay - a "stick" (thick post really) type and a scissor type. The ones with the spare mount on the bonnet should have the "stick" type.

It would be a better bet to find a bonnet with a spare kit mounted to it (factory) than retrofit some of the after market kits out there.

I could be wrong but I think teh bonnets with teh spare kits were a bit more reinforced - again, I could be wrong.

Be aware though that I wouldn't use it as a regular place to keep a spare (maybe reserve it for an extra wheel on long trips etc). The weight of the wheel on the bonnet causes some flex which over time can crack the bonnet (it did so on my 110).

Also it makes the bonnet damned heavy and you'll quickly get sickof lifting it with the wheel in place there!

Thanks Guys,

I have a rear swing carrier, the bonnet mount one is just for a second spare on remote trips. I have a roof tent so have to put the second spare in the back which is a PITA for many reasons.. esp when you have to put a flat dirty one in there...

AHH i see

I chain the second wheel to the front bar once I am off the high way and want to get the extra weight off the roof rack. On the bonnet is really not an option on a trail or track, it hard enough to see over the bonnet now and getting wheel placement correct.
