I've found this for sale and would like anyone's idea on a reasonable price.
1973 LAND ROVER (4X4) LWB
http://images.placemyad.com.au/000/009/229/079/9229079_image1_large.jpg
" Series 3 running Holden Red 173 which was reconditioned a few years back. Has the Series 2a stronger gearbox. Factory Bullbar and manual Winch. Brand new Brakes throughout. "
56 000Km
Bull Bar
Roof Racks
Tow Bar
Good condition

I haven't looked at it yet and he reckons its a series 3 but it looks more like late 2a.

He's asking $1900

Thanks

ThanksIt has a SIII firewall so that usually indicates SIII - does it have the clam-shell chassis side rails, that will pretty much confirm the SIII status.

The suffix G SIIa grill is a bit confusing, however given the colour scheme it's an early SIII which did have a reasonably weak gearbox, but they did have the Sals rear diff which is good.

IMHO the price he' asking - - - valuations is not something we're supposed to do. So can't give you one today and tomorrow ping someone for asking the same question.

What sort of winch is that sitting there? A hand winch?????

The ad mentioned a manual winch- so I presume its a hand winch.
The grille is what threw me a bit.

G'day Korg20000bc :)

The chassis no will tell you 253******** "G" or "H" will be 2a and a No starting with 9****** will be a Ser 3 either from the chassis or rego papers ;) dash on a late 2a in the centre Ser 3 plastic in front of driver is another clue.or it could have had a S3 firewall complete grafted on to it years ago was it an original 6 with Holden replacement or a 4 the firewall at the transmission tunnel will be further back if it is an original 6 potter.

cheers

It was also not uncommon for new S3 customers to specify the S2a grilles when purchasing. Many didn't like the change to plastic on the S3.

I went and checked it out this morning:

As you can see he wanted $2500 originally. Nearly everything that could leak was leaking. Bulkhead was the worst I've seen. The chassis was brilliant. Couldn't see any rust at all.

The series 3 diesel that I bought as a parts vehicle would combine well with this one to make a pretty good vehicle. $1900... he dreaming...

Was it a SIII clam-shell chassis or a welded SIIa chassis?

Looks like a SIIa chassis from what I could see.

A Dawn winch - they used to be seen on all sorts of things like tow trucks, I even have one which I kept off a suffix G SIIa 109.

There was even an Australian Army modification to use one on a WWII Jeep.

Maybe the bull bar came off the Holden that donated the motor;)

G'day Korg20000bc :)

I would put that as a 2a with a 2a stationwagon rear door (low mount spare) chassis is 2/2a,body has 2a style T/lights, with early wipac type stop/tail lamps, left front guard is 2a,and I wouldn't be suprised if it was mid 60's like 63/4 by those rear lights, and about 1K too dear ;) the R/diff is probably a replacement for the rover after the Holden broke it so it was replaced with a Salisbury, all just IMHO :)

A bit like the village bike then?

The dash/bulkhead was series three. Do you think a 6cyl bulkhead might've been put in when the holden 6 was put in? It was curious to see the bulkhead sooo corroded but the chassis so good.

Are you sure you're not getting your Sparto's confused with your Wipac's?
My 1971 suffix H 109" wagon had the Wipac's, the conical Lucas side lamps and a Salisbury diff.

Still I'm not saying that the diff and other bits didn't come off another SIII car.
