A bit of a background 12 months ago i purchased a D2a td5 auto sls with 84K on the clock purchased for $24.5K which was a very sensible purchase and functionally did what we needed towing the caravan wife and 4 kids. I decided that i wanted all the luxuries and a bit of a project and put some $ back in my pocket. Then just recently i found a 2000ES TD5 auto with 160k with abs and transmission issues. Purchased it for $9.5k sight unseen (that is a whole other story). The things i knew about car.
New fuel regulator
new injector harness
4 new discs and pads
radiator and turbo hoses replaced
recent coolant fluid change
regularly serviced.
absolutely filthy car mud inside and out.
Since having the car i have
replaced pump oil bolt original was still tight no sludge at all in sump very clean. put on new filters etc.
new maf
purchased one of the last nanocom
$1200 on abs
$500 left hand rear hub
$70 new injector harness with LRO modifications (see pic)
$2200 on transmission a friend who is a transmission specialist and extremely fussy did all the work while i did the running around $700 on parts one of the clutches had broken. Had torque converter reconditioned by TCT in clayton (see photo) it was flushed new internals and they welded a strengthening plate around the spiget to stop the potential cracking that can happen. replaced some orings and checked bearings in transfer box. It has the cdl internals so just bolted on lever to use diff lock if by chance i need it.
$40 on turbo modulator which brings me to my issue, inside the filter box was mud in the bottom and mud splashed onto the face of the MAF!!!! i finally worked out that the mob who serviced it last guided the locating lug on the lid of the air filter box into the box and clamped it down bending the lid and leaving a gap. That has now been resolved however while i had the turbo hose off cleaning it i noticed that the leading edges on the turbo blades were rough and blunt(see pic). they spin freely and it sounds ok i am just wandering if it is a potential issue and what can or should be done.
I have to say i love this new car we can do anything go anywhere and do it in luxury. I am on the way to knowing it extremely well.
Happy to discuss anything i mentioned and apologise if i have made mistakes.
Regards
