help lens selection

i have a D60 with two lenses 18-55 and a 55-200

is this the lense that i can replace my two other lenses with? i'm flying overseas monday night and only want to take one lense and don't want the hassles of changing lenses

Yes. The 18-200 is optically a much better lens than either of the other two, though it also costs twice as much as the other two together!

But you might also look at the Tamron 18-270mm f/3.5-6.3 Di-II VC LD Asph AF Macro. It would be my choice over the Nikkor.

Regarding some glowing reviews available on the web the expectation were rather high. Unfortunately the (tested sample of the) Nikkor AF-S 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6 G IF-ED VR II DX wasn't able to convince completely. Weak points are rather hefty distortions and high vignetting (@ f/3.5) at 18mm. Apart from a few weak spots the resolution figures are quite good though and it is possible to get very decent images from this lens under field conditions. I would take 2 lens any time, and perhaps the 50mm f/1.8 which is very cheap for night shots.

Different manufacturer I know, but I'm very happy with the Canon 18-200mm on my 500D.

Maybe for the cost of the lens you could buy a decent compact camera instead? They sure are easy to travel with.

I would take my DSLR over a compact any day...

Only reason I have many times taken my compact and solely regretted not man'ing up and taking the weight of my SLR

Hmm, now you set the standards DB.. if a chick can handle the DSLR, then no bloke in their right mind will want to be busted with a compact :D :D
