D4 2.7L Viscous Fan

Hi All,

I have been driving the D4 for a few weeks now and have noticed that I can hear the viscous fan kicking in every now and then when the car is already warmed up and the temperature gauge mid way up the scale. I can usually hear it at lower speeds and only for about 5-10 seconds. Is this normal?

Yeah mate this is normal. The fan is not only viscous it also has an electric hub that can be locked by the engine ecu depending on conditions, a/c etc if you look at the fan shroud on the right hand side you will see the connector for the wiring that goes to the fan.
It goes without saying you will have checked the coolant level and I assume the temp reading is normal ? If in doubt have it checked... but iam pretty sure this will be the case, try with the a/c off and you will prob see the difference... Especially on a cold Toowoomba night :cool:
