Hi Guys,

I'm in the planing stages to replace the 2.6 6cly out of my 109 with a diesel.

I have narrowed it down to a 200TDi or an Isuzu, I beleive that the TDi will bolt up to the s111 gearbox with a little effort. Can anyone tell me if the Isuzu will bolt up or would i have to update the gearbox too?

Cheers
Pete

Hi Pete
If you search the 2a section, someone was discussing that the other day. For memory I think they said the 200 or 300tdi was the pick.

Cheers Ian

The 200 tdi only needs a dowl removed for it to fit up to the series box from memery.

i have often wondered about doing this so ill be watching keenly, how much difference is there between a 200tdi and a 300tdi as in fitting and mounting it

I am about to go through this (200tdi from a Discovery) and will catalogue all my encounters. From the hours upon hours of reading I have done on the net, the 300tdi is a different bellhousing and is also longer, shortening the rear propshaft, lengthening the front and buidling a new tunnel.

Watching with interest too :D

Battlebus,
The best thing I did was pull the Holden 202 out and shoehorn a 300Tdi, G/box and T/case out of a Disco in, you need a good man on a welder, plenty of discs for a 4'' grinder and go at it with glee, you will not be sorry, fuel consumption is approx. 9litres/100Ks, I have photos of transplant if you wish to have a look, Cheers Chasa

Not sure if I'm right, but is the 4cyl bell housing/gear box different from the 2.6 6cly one?? I think the TDi's will only bolt up to the 4cl setup??

please correct me if I'm wrong.

I'd be very keen to see some photos of that. Is it full time 4WD? or are my wires crossed?

Correct. The 200Tdi is a drop in replacement for the four cylinder (gearbox, bell housing, engine mounts) - not the six. The 300Tdi does not match either, as far as I know.

PeteJust to clarify something that doesn't seem to have been answered.

No the Isuzu 4BD1 diesel won't bolt up to the series 3 gearbox, with almost 1 litre per cylinder, you would want an LT95 or an Isuzu gearbox to sit behind that engine. The 4BD1-LT95 bellhousings are quite difficult to acquire and come at a premium price tag.

G'day Jim, yes it is constant 4wd now, I also installed Detroit trutracks front and rear, I had to take the front one out and replace it with the open diff again as the heavy and torque steering, with the caravan on, got a bit of a handfull, the little diesel has so much more torque than the holden, I also fitted power steering to overcome the torque steering, which I have retained to make things easier with the weight over the front axle, my email is, cd713115@bigpond.net .au, I will put the photos on CD for you if you would like to send me an address, I'm in Hobart, Tas., Cheers Chas

Any chance you can upload them to imagechack or flickr ? or we can get Jim to do it, I know i might be interested in the future to do something similar to you.

Sounds like a great project, and one that I would very much like to do one day, however, unless the parts fall off the back of a truck it will remain a pipe dream for a bit longer. Maybe in the future I'll chase up those photos or some feedback.

cheers

Thanks to all those who replied to my question.

looks like a complete 200/300tdi and gearbox will be the go. Depends on what sort of a donor vehicle i can acquire.

I would love to check out the pics of your project chasa particularly the power steering mods.

Happy Land roving to you all

Pete
