Hey guys new on here! I have decided to get a new HSE and am planning on testing both engines.

What do you think is the better engine? I'll be doing a lot of inner city driving, trips to the snow most weekends during winter & the occasional camping trip where ill be towing a campervan.

I do like a car with a bit of 'up and go' after owing a turbo forrester and a HSV so im leaning towards the petrol after hearing the diesel is quite sluggish, especially on take off from idle....

mate,, after the slight hesitation after take off,, i realy do think the td4 is faster, the i6 is no were near what you will expect, it is all noise and no go,(and drinks fuel, best iv seen is about 13LPH on a car that was allways crusing,, did very little town driving,(98 oct as well $$$))

its not a racing car so it dont need to go like one,, but i no wwhat you mean about get up and going to over take or witch ever, but the td4 has heaps more plus's then downs, and towing will be a dream with the td4,

you will not regret the td4,

i drive both alot and would take the td4 anyday if it was my money,

the only down side i can think of is that it is a lil bit loud out side, but inside its very good and you will get over it qwick:D

HSV to a freelander,, its like a vogue to a captiva :P

This topic has been thrashed to death. The end result is they are both great motors. I have a td4 and don't know how anyone could call it sluggish and I came off a 180 kw car expecting it to disappoint me in that way. I think it's great. The diesel has great economy whereas the petrol can get thirsty if you drive it to it's ability. The fuel economy of the I6 is the main gripe that I have heard around the traps. If I was towing then the diesel all the way for me. Either way you are ok because they are great cars.

TD4 :)

You can get Tombie to chip it if you want extra go but the stock setup is plenty quick.

Besides its not made to go fast, its made to go anywhere.

Yeah, the i6 is a quicker motor... Thing is, if you want a sports car, get a sports car!

The TD4 isn't a slouch and mid range acceleration is quite reasonable. Also, if you want to have that extra little punch, slip it into sand mode... ;)

However, you pays your money & takes your choice. Test drive them both & see what you think.

PS - My favorite is the TD4 Auto...

I tested both and having always owned v8 rangies and discos I was biased toward the petrol. However after driving the TD4 I was so impressed that I went diesel. Haven't regretted it for one moment.:)

I currently drive an Audi 2.0T Avant which is chipped and goes like a scalded cat.
I am looking to buy a FL2 and test drove both the SI6 and the TD4 the other day. I will take the TD4 over the SI6. The TD4 was quicker off the mark than the SI6.

Thanks for your replies even tho this is YART.

Ok, so i tested the TD4 (actually have it in the driveway) and I am really impressed! I was reallly expecting it to be a slouch but its far from that. I even tesed the mud & rut feature on a decent track and it handled it with ease! Just sit back in comfort and steer. Cant wait to make a purchase and really test it out off road. Im taking it back in the morning to swap it for the SI6 so ill report back then.

After testing the BMW X1, forester XT and tiguan, I am sold on the FL2 :D Just gotta decide on the Td4 or the SI6.

After testing both engines i ended up placing an order for the TD4 HSE!! Should have it by July, just in time for winter (I drive to the snow frequently).

I did test it from a standing start in sand mode and it does make a difference :)

Where can i get this chip from? How much extra power does it add and how much $$?

Good choice bud. I have bought a steinbaurer chip. It bumps it from 400 - 480nm.

I actually never got to use it as my car got written off in a hail storm.

Yeah i cant wait until it arrives :)

No good to hear about your car! What did you replace it with?

Ive had a look at the steinbaurer chip and i want one!! Do you still have yours and want to get rid of it (presuming you had a FL2)??

Does anyone have any recommendations on where I can get one from in Melbourne?
