I have refurbished the swivels on my 86" including new bottom bearings, railko conversion and new Swivel ball seals. When I filled them with EP90 oil first time they are leaked everywhere...

The seals appear to be sealing fine onto the chrome ball but I have had to put some gasket goo around the outside of the swivel seal to seat it into its recess.

They also appear to be leaking around or through the lower swivel pin shims. The bolts are done up as tight as I am game to. Is there a trick to this? Do the shims need sealing with goo etc to stop oil leaking through them? Would use of the LR oil/grease "one shot" stuff have a lesser tendency to leak like this?

Am after your knowledge......
Cheers,
Chris

Mine did the same thing. Find an O ring the right size. I have forgotten just off hand and put it on the bottom pin. You will see how it will squeeze up into a chamfer around the lower hole and seal even with a few shims in there.

I did my 88in SER 3 3years ago and my 57 88in 3 months ago, used grease on the shims, and ultra blue sealant on the rubber surface of the seal pressing against the CV housing, not a drop of oil from either, good luck.

Yes I did a similar thing, and used Loctite gasket sealer (I cant rember the number) It was red sticky stuff. I used it between each shim, which took some time and was messy, but it worked with no leakages.

It took me a few dry runs getting the shims the right hight as to center the ball in the seal, before I reassembled with the gasket goo.
