I have read through all the vent conversion threads and most recommend to use the flaps and controls off a series 3. I was wondering if the flaps and opening controls off a series 2a are the same.

The reason is that this is local: 2A firewall (http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Land-Rover-Restored-Series-2A-Firewall-Bulkhead_W0QQitemZ180495234356QQcmdZViewItemQQptZA U_Car_Parts_Accessories?hash=item2a065ab534)

I still need the rest of the pieces on the list, but this would be a start.

I'm pretty sure my conversion was done with series 2 parts.

Good luck with it, its well worthwhile.

Any Idea if this could be done to the puma ?

whilsti have the bulkhead out what we talking about here exactly and what are the benefits

We are talking about removing the factory County air-con and installing the pop-out vents under the windscreen that every other series and defender were fitted with (and the non-sircon counties) Benefits are lots of fresh air and a nice breeze whilst driving and haveing a useful dash to stow things in :)

If you search 'County Vents' in the tech section or project section you should find a few DIY's and some discussion.

If you have the firewall out, now's the time to do it :)

I doubt it. Doesn't a Puma dash go all the way up to windscreen level?

Well i am blessed with water ingress giving virtues on my landy ...although this seems to be the one place water didn't come from.
So do you guys need to cut the slots for the vent flaps then....
And as big Jon said no need on a puma they got air con and enough lego over the bulkhead to make it near on impossible to achieve.

DEEJAY : That work is truly inspired i like the 10 mm rubber that is a dead set bloody good idea it may get incorperated into the 130, what type is it ?
Just that we suffer some hot days and i imagine that the vent foam and the rubber may get a bit sticky possible come summer, you did some beaut work there congrats.

I did this conversion to an '85 County 3.9D I owned a few years ago and I used all S2A parts. Everything fitted straight in. Hardest part was drilling out the spotwelds holding the blanking panels.
I also replaced all the aircon face level air plumbing with a single fabricated box in the centre which was made to take the 4 plastic louvre vents. The a/c airflow increased very noticably after this was done.
I was able to have the vents open for pressurising AND have the a/c running for comfort.
Well worth doing.

Terri, this sounds very interesting as i plan to only put a small amount of the bulkhead crud back in the landy, generally i am required to have a heater(for demisting) but as the lower dash is for the feet i don't see the need for it so i think that goes,
Aircon is something i aspire to have and plan to have one stuck on the dash above the fuses is that what you did mate?
Got any shots of it ?
Thanks Andy

A series 3 heater fits beautifully into a county :). there's a whole lot less crud if you get rid of the original heater / air con complex. You do lose the recirculating air function though.

I'll be damned if i can remember, is there much between a series3 and a defender setup you know heater matrix and blower in the engine bay

Don't know about the defender - but the county air con / heater setup has its own post code.

Sorry Andy, no photos - that was all done 10 odd years ago, sold and then written off by the next owner. The County was already fitted with aircon - that's why the vents were blocked off.
The demister and floor heating don't get changed, all you do is rip out the face level vent stuff leaving a nice parcel tray (It's all there behind the plastic cover) then make a box to take the louvre vents and fit it to a cut hole in the middle of the parcel tray. Or you can just block the air holes that fed the face vents and do without it. Original setup never worked very well anyway.
You have to re mount the aircon switch panel somewhere, I think I just fixed it to the front of the parcel shelf.
The demisters are fed separately by other hoses, you don't change them.
