Hello Folks,
I have kindly had an offer from Killer to make me the diamond lug that guides the crank handle through the bumper bar - one of these....

Groucho had kindly offered this real one to me, but I reckon having some of Mick's handywork onboard would be the icing on the cake....
So - can anyone give me a set of dimensions so that Mick can knock one up for me?

Getting an exact replica is quite a feat.
A friend in Western Sydney, makes reproduction bumpers and has a tool to press the shape from a laser cut blank.
You would be surprised how difficult it is to get the finished result after the pressing to be the same as the original Rover product.
It is likely that the originals were stamped with a die that both cut the shape and pressed the finished part.

Thanks for the info Diana - but I have the utmost faith in Killer's ability to make a replica that will be just fine on my vehicle.
Even if it's not "perfect", I like to have such offerings from good friends. Maybe that sounds a little odd - but hey - that's me! :D

i think it would be a good little job to make,i think the best way would be to make a cardboard copy and just trace that on to the metal

i think it would be a good little job to make,i think the best way would be to make a cardboard copy and just trace that on to the metalThat's what you would think, however because the bracket is also pressed in (like a little vortex) what you have before you start stretching the metal looks very different to what you get after the pressing. e.g. the little tabs have to start like little triangles to come out like little rectangles after being pushed in. If you start with little rectangles cut out from the centre hole in the plate you end up with the hole in the centre being like an elipse and the crank just rattles around.
If you like get an old crank handle bracket and hammer it flat to see what the result is. This is similar to what the plate needs to be before pressing and what happened to one of mine before the reproductions were fabricated.
Fred still has the reproduction S1 bumpers if anyone is interested.

I reckon all this fabulous info will be all Killer needs to make a cracker replica!

OK been trying to do it on the CAD drawing thingo but i can"t get it right. Just about to launch a chair through the puter.
It is 11cm wide & 5 1/2 cm high. outside dim. As Diana says it is hard to get the size as the center hole changes as it is swaged in. You will have to make the centre hole smaller. Just find the centre lines and fudge it from the piccy. Thats why i kept the old one they are a little harder to make than they look.....

Thanks guys, I will try to make it as close to the original as possible. How thick should the plate be?
Cheers, Mick.

Maybe I'm a pedant, but I'm sure some will agree with my thinking. Those dimensions will only be approximate as they should be imperial measurements.:)

In case no one can tell us otherwise, I reckon they are about 2mm thick Mick - just a guestimate, but as a "Killer special" I'd have thought that would be OK - it's OK with me! :)
Actually Mick, I just rang a contact Diana gave me - they are 3mm thick ;)

Thanks Dan, after looking at the photo again, that was what I was thinking. One of the guys here has made a program to machine it on our CNC machining centre, so I will give it a burl at lunchtime.:)
Cheers, Mick.

Glen is taking it to an "old time" mechanic who, lets say, is "sympathetic" to vehicles such as Matilda. ;)
And don't worry - I'll let you all know 1 nanosecond after I find out what happened - fingers crossed, hey?
That said - it might not go in until tomorrow.
