Good evening all,
Could anyone tell me do series 3 doors fit defenders with not much bother?
I seem to remember they do and i was thinking of changing mine, as i have the 130 can i get the rear doors in the right format ?

Ijust lifted this from another landy website (big up the LZ massive) it answers my question completely so I thought it maybe useful for other members, hope it is ok to post :
Series 2/2a/3/90/110/Defender doors are all the same shape with the same
boltholes for the important bits. A summary of the door types is as
follows:-

Series 2/2a - 2 piece (except rear & side rear of five door 109). Only
significant change in late production was to the window lock. Door check
pivoted on door, slides on bulkhead.

Series 3 - same as S2 except door check is pivoted on bulkhead and slides in
door. Optional (standard in late production) anti-burst door locks,
interchangeable except they need a hole in the door skin for the keyhole.
Series 2&3 optional groove along bottom for door trim.

Very early 110. Same as S3 door except that the door check is pivoted on the
door and slides on the bulkhead pillar. Glass is arranged differently with
the join between the two panes sloped rather than vertical. This door is
still fitted to most military 90/110. Tops are interchangeable from this
door right back to S2.

110/90 to 1987 Fabricated frame one piece door with wind up windows. Much
thicker, very prone to rattles. New remote operation door lock and
different striker plate.

110/90 to date. Pressed frame one piece door, even thicker, push button door
handles, new locks and striker plate, common to other
Leyland/Rover/Landrover vehicles. Generally much better engineered, but you
lose a lot of space.

All the doors are interchangeable with appropriate locks and striker plates,
except you may have to cobble up the door check arrangement. Fitting the
late 90/110 doors to earlier models will cause problems with elbow room
unless you also fit a smaller steering wheel and move the outboard seats
inward an inch or so.

Yes, my 1984 One Ten V8 PUP definitely had a elbow problem.....combined with my body width, ahem!

So an early 110 winder window front door will fit the S3? Lovely to know.....I want an S3 but don't enjoy slider windows in our weather.

I thought I read that the door heights were different between series and Defender, I must have been mistaken.

Not with the crime in my country, mate.

Ummm.....our lovely new government has stopped all gun licenses. Bit fight currently between the ANC and several gun associations, but effectively I am gun-less and unable to get a license.

And I live on a farm, and over 3000 farmers have been killed since "democracy" in 1994.

But let's not get into a political discussion, we're on a Landy forum....:(

I don't know the s3 well enough but I know you can't use 2a locks on a more modern chassis - that's why I said 'check' :p

I wanted to drop my old 2a body on a Td5 rolling chassis and it was 1000 little failed ADRs like door locks and windscreen whipers and distance of lights from the side of the vehicle that killed the plan

Yeah becauseone way of looking at it is that you are fitting a newer (and therefore safer of course) chassis and lower polluting engine to your OLD landy (as oppsoed to an old body to a new landy) if you get my drift.

It's all a joke anyway when there are heaps of unlicenced boozed up idiots in rusty old pieces of **** on the roads and very little is done about them.

I have Series 3 doors on my 110. I had to change the striker plates on the B pillar to match the lock type on the older doors. From memory, I needed to drill a couple of new holes to mount the series 3 striker plates. They are still the anti burst type (unlike 2A doors). I wanted to be able to galvanise the door frame as well as the extra knee room and removable door tops (I leave the door tops off most of the time). Have had some hypothermic experiences when the weather has turned bad and the door tops were at home in the shed.:(

Yeah, when I checked this out what I was told is the vehicle is the chassis which is a key perspective unfortunately.
