hey i need to get the gearbox together today anyway my question is on the distance sleeve there are 2 pegs but on the mainshaft we can only see one hole so does the smaller peg need to go in or is it just a later addition'should there be a hole there?
thanks tony

Yes; there should be two holes in the mainshaft and a big and small pin to fit in them. On mine, one of the pins had sheared off but I was able to drill the remains of it out of the shaft. I tried tapping it on the anvil and using a magnet first but luckily drilling worked.

Both pins are needed - the little one is to stop the the thrust washer rotating on the shaft and the big one stops the bronze distance piece from rotating. Make sure you fit them or the parts will wear and contaminate the oil. I used Loctite to make sure they stayed in place,

Cheers Charlie

bad news the gearbox is together and we only put the big pin in as there was no hole for the small pin

well
pull it apart and drill the little pin out
will save you a problem in the future
do not take short cuts
you are young
you have time on your side
do it correctly
cheers

wait ok might have been a bit of confusion on my behalf here on the distance sleeve there is 2 slots a big one and a small one we put the pin in the big slot but not the small slot however we have a pin in to stop the thrust washer rotating.
