Welcome aboard! :D

If you need an entire key, get it done by someone in the UK and straight away you save a few huindred dollars.

If you just need batteries or repairs to a broken key, check out e-bay. Battery & Repair kits can be had for between $5-20AUS and there is a dude in the UK who will "rebuild" your existing key for about 80 pound.

There is heaps of info on here about this subject, try using the search function and typing in "keys"... then a lot more info will land in your lap!

Hi Viren - welcome to AULRO.

Spare keys for the Rangie are a pain in the butt. Dave is right, your best bet and cheapest option may be to get it from the UK. Some of the repair or remanufacturing services require your old key so you will have no key at all while they have it. Personally, I would not want to trust anyone with my key for an extended period of time.

Weigh up the options of getting one from the UK versus getting a local dealer to source one for you. Scott (Scouse on this forum) might "know a guy".

BTW: I posted your EAS Buddy and cable today. You should have them tomorrow.

Cheers
Paul.

First thing you need to establish is what frequency your receiver is at.

Buying a key with the wrong frequency will be a big WOFTAM.

After re reading your post, I am wondering if you mean a new remote fob/key or just a key by itself ?

I have only one remote fob and the "Spare" key is a normal key.

Couple of things:
1. to get a new remote+key you have to get it from the factory in the UK
2. The factory requires proof of ownership AND the VIN because the new key is programmed to your BECM.
3. This is on the basis that the lockset in the driver's door has not been changed since your P38 came off the assembly line... if it has then you need to get the code for the current lockset...
4. You need to know which key you have. There are 4 keys: A "grey remote fob+key" = Key #1
A black remote fob+key =key#2
A red (or is it yellow?) key without a remote =Key#3
A yellow (or is it red?) key without remote = Key#4

You can't have 2 of any specific number as best I can work out.
sometimes you can see the key number on a sticker on the fob if it has not been worn away...in which case you can get the other one. In which case order a spare(non-fob) key as well.

If you know someone in the UK they can normally get it through a LR dealer there for about GBP 153 ($260) free of VAT IF you can prove it is to be exported.

they will require proof of ownership /front page of log book/copy of rego certificate (certified true copy) etc

Last quote from local dealer in Bris was of the order of A$600...up front if you don't mind....because they can I suppose

Must send nice email to nephew in the UK for next 2 yrs... because the keys weigh less than 140gm then first class postage from the UK is about $15...
