View Full Version : 101 Wheel Bearing Numbers

As far as I am aware 101 wheel bearings are not common to any other land rover. I want to get a set to carry in my spare parts list but am not sure what to buy from the bearing shop. My parts manual has the land rover part number but as the 101 is not listed in any of the bearing books I cannot do a cross reference.
So does anyone know of a Timkin or other "brand name" bearing number for both inner and outer bearings?
Thanks
Garry

Did you know I was pulling the front diff out today? I replaced the rear ones but have thrown away the boxes so I have gotten the number from the bearing themselves.
Inner larger bearing -
Outside ring - JLM508710
Bearing race - JLM508748
Outer smaller bearing -
Outside ring - JLM104910
Bearing race - JLM104948
Hope this helps.
Cheers,
Peter

Thats great - exactly what I was after - I was hoping they were complete bearings rather than bearing and race.
Do you recall what brand you got and the rough cost for a set?
Any particular issue putting them in. These are going to be spares just in case I have an issue when out and about so might have to be replaced in the field using tools I carry with me.
Thanks

Had a quick look on the web. It appears those numbers are valid for both Timken & SKF.

Further to this, I have downloaded the Timken Catalogue. It is a 4.5Mb PDF. If anyone wants a copy PM your email (or postal address for a CD).

I am not sure of the brand of the ones I got from the 101club but three of the ones I pulled out were Timken and one was SKF, all with the same numbers.
Fundamentally the same job as changing front wheel bearings on most cars. You should have cir-clip pliers on hand and possibly the drive flange joint washer (593872).
The 60mm hub locknuts and lock washers were fairly butchered on mine. Fortunately I had bought some new ones with my order from the 101club last year. Also got the hub nut spanner from them which makes life real easy.
Must go now, front diff is calling.

Peter

Thanks - when you have finished yours, you can come down and do mine.:)

:( Glad I have decided not to replace my wheels bearings and just buy one set for the spares box - one set of Timken inner and outer bearings = $300 :(.

Ouch! For future reference, what are the part number on the boxes?
A set of inners and outers from the 101 club equates to around $75. Would probably cost about $20-$25 to get them here.

The 101 club is not a reliable source of parts and they take forever to sent things - I am still waiting for them to send things that I paid for last October.
I need these in just over 2 weeks times so I did not even bother with the 101 club - I just ordered the part numbers that you posted up earlier.

They are reliable if you have at least 3 months on hand, I am also waiting for parts paid for in October.
I have just learned that the outer bearing #606474 is also used in the LT230 transfer output shaft. For future reference they have them at L. R. Series - specialists in land rover, land rover series and range rover - gearbox, axle, transmission parts, spares and major units (http://www.lrseries.com) for £9.99. I have found them fairly reliable the few times I have used them.

A quick update on lrseries.com.
I needed some swivel pin shims not available in OZ. I ordered these along with a full set of front wheel bearings and seals, total cost £135, ($225 OZ) includes fedex shipping to OZ, should be here mid next week.
