Hi Serg,
IIRC Ashcrofts have the info you are after on their website. Suffix L is the pick of them, from 1999 onwards, VERY late Def and D1 Tdi/ V8 and all Td5 Def and D2 Td5 / V8.

Don't worry, a 1998 build should be a Suffix K, they are still no slouch in the strength department, a big improvement over 'J' version. IIRC the only difference to 'L' from 'K' is a stronger mainshaft design.
What are you putting it behind and what are you going to be doing with it?

Good luck finding that out. I think its top secret - super duper top secret - top level need to know basis type stuff - we could capture him and tie him up then shove bamboo shoots between his finger nails and he'd still never tell. I think he works for the military, or ASIO or the CIA. dont ask any more questions - your life might just depend on knowing nothing about it. shhhhh

I asked Dave Ashcroft a few years back and he said there were only a few minor differences between the 'K' and 'L' 'boxes, and they treated them as the same box.
Strength should be the same. Serg, your late '98 box will be a Suffix 'K' like mine.

OK, here's Dave's response to my Q re Suffix 'K' and 'L' boxes.
Hi,
as per the web site there are lots of differences between the J and the K/L but virtually nothing between the K and the L, same bearings, same gears, same baulk rings, slight dimentional difference on the layshaft but no strength implications,
we treat the K and the L as the same thing,
Dave

what does it matter what I do.....but it does seem when a person posts their plans it can bring the crap out....and why do you need to know what IM doing. the question is simple enough and doesnt need to be side tracked with what a person is thinking about or wanting to do.
if i want to share information about my person ideas i will.....seems alot here want to know so they can jump on it from a negative view

You will talk :)
Relax, i'm not really going to send Jack (just a joke ;))
Its only natural for people to want to know about what you're building - from the questions you've asked it sounds like youre going large.
but hey, if no talkie because of the negative nellies. cool

really just a waste of time posting stuff like that. I asked about the differences in R380's this could have been a sticky thread for the tech section and be a good reference for others. In no way did it have to be about what i am or are not doing. it was a simple question like others i have posted that get the ooh ooh what are you doing why do you need to know that response. if a person chooses to discuss their builds and plans they will probably put that in the 1st post and or in the members section.
seems tech is hard to come by here without the legal litigation, what are you doing and why and the my rover has never broken that so you must be doing something wrong response.
in the past 2 weeks i have simply asked about sals rears, offset wheels and spacers and r380's and have had more responses ASSUMING or GUESSING at where im coming from when all that had to be done was respond to the question or not at all
thanks to Rick130 and JustinC for their responses, i had and did look again at Ashcrofts site, i just couldnt find the info.
also ashcroft states the ROW R 380's came with oil cooler pipes or proper oil coolers???? My defender did not, but they may have been talking about disco's and RR????

Your abit abrasive aren't you?,maybe people want to now what your doing as they may have done it themselves and could give advice or have the parts you need.Maybe if you posted better people wouldn't ask questions such as in the wheel spacer thread,no one new what you wanted them for so said they aren't road legal which they aren't.If you don't like the responses don't post. if i dont like the responses dont post, ........if you dont like what people are doing dont post or if you dont like what people ask dont post and on and on and on.....
Pat here is a copy of my first post in the wheel spacer thread:
hey all,
Id like to know who is running wheel spacers and/or large offset rims on rover axles???
doesnt matter what diffs (toy/rover/sals), doesnt matter what shafts, or cvs etc. what Im interested is if anyone is having problems with the:
Front: swivel ball to axle case flange connection
rear: spindle (stub axle) to axle case flange connection
please let me know how much offset you are running and or what size wheel spacers. also how much the vehilce is driven
cheers,
Serg
where do I say that i am running or want wheel spacers and or large offset rims? IT DOESNT! it was assumed by some. you say maybe people want to know what im doing, but they dont ask and just say things like that is illegal when i dont have them or even going to run them....it could have been asked as what was i looking at doing to the truck and for what use....and that certain things in certain instances are illegal but all it was was a quick HEY YOU....
regardless of that I was asking a specific technical question in a technical forum......as much as I undertsand why it was posted about legality it really PMO as we all have to be responsible for our own actions and just becasue someone on the internet tells me its ok to do something doesnt mean I will hold them liable for anything I do......
ontop of this i also feel alot of good threads get side tracked and then lost becasue of peoples opinions on things that arent about the OP...
as far as being abrasive yep thats how i can be......Im here for technical information not hugs and kisses
