They look pretty worn and my ABS light stays on when I start her up. HD and TC come on and go away for 3 seconds then come back.

me thinks the mexicans have invaded south africa....cheeky little buggers.
Do a search for "3 amigoes" within the Discovery 2 channel and start reading. There is lots to read. First you need to do the test to determine if it is a wheel sensor, or the shuttle. That test is in this thread:http://www.aulro.com/afvb/discovery-2/103023-your-weekly-amigo-post.html
If its the shuttle, there is a good tutorial in the files section of this website on how to deal with that problem.
As for your original theory, the minimum disk thickness is written on the disk. Just measure and see if they are ok......but i dont think its your problem.

I would also check to see if the sensor is either broken or just come apart where it joins in the wheel arch at the rear or under the bonnet on the inner guard.
The front sensor have been known to break down near the hub and the rear can pull apart under articulation.
