Hi All,

I'm currently contemplating looking for work on the mines and I have a few questions, etc. I did a search of threads related to mining jobs and most of the people that had asked questions in the past had a trade background - something I don't.

I'm 21, fit and I have a farming background, I've now been working in agriculture for about 5 years and I have a Dip. Ag. Spent the last three years as the studmaster on a W.A. sheep stud so I'm used to isolation, hard work, long hours, etc.

I have an agricultural related project that I want to commence work on and I am thinking at this stage that a job that is fifo would fit quite well in with what I am planning. Can anyone give me any pointers/advice as to what sort of mine related work I could look into with my sort of background? I do quite enjoy driving large trucks, etc but at this stage I don't have a truck licence as I was initially to young to apply for an articulated and all the driving I did was on farm.

I'm mainly looking for something that would be fifo out of Adelaide, we live in the south east of S.A. and I don't particularly want to move from there.

The Adelaide based company I work for has been putting on staff.

Google Borehole-Wireline and have a look at our website.

Thanks LR09WA, Jon and Dave, I've rung around a few different driving schools to get the heavy rigid licence, shouldn't be too difficult only problem at this stage is getting a booking, most of them are booked out two months in advance.

Can you guys tell me what sort of things I would need to put in my resume in order to be considered? ie, what the companies would be looking for specifically? I have a really good agricultural resume but I don't think a mining company is going to want to know how many thousand sheep I was responsible for.;)

Gary, you have no idea how often that used to crop up when I told people what I did for a living. Though what did suprise me was how much stick a couple of Irish backpackers gave me, the fame of the kiwi's must have spread afar.

Thanks everyone. Jonathan.

A first aid certificate (St. John's 2 day course) is always an assett and often a requirement.

Jonathan,

I know we have put on quite a few staff in the last few weeks. I know from my own experience they have been putting us through first aid courses and others have been getting truck licenses at the companies expense (not me, I already have HC).

I can email you my CV if you want to have a look at it. I am by no means a proffesional writer of resumes, but it hasn't let me down yet.

My guess is the only thing against you as far as the place I work for is your age. My understanding is that insurance on vehicles is a lot higher for younger drivers.

AusDrill in WA (Kalgoorlie) are one of the only companies that will actually train drillers, etc., most want qualified and experienced workers, I don't think they have anything in SA though, Regards Frank.

I'd be concerned about mining jobs because K RUDD has found a new way to tax the states -that he has already reduced spending in (that'll be the western and central states/terr.'s) Yup a super mining tax.

what a surprise that the man that cant stop spending has resorted to a new and unusual way to cripple the main industry that kepy Aust afloat during the worst of the GFC...

I think soon we will feel the pinch of the GFC worse than we all expect...

i hope Im wrong but I doubt it:mad:
