I'm guessing the tyres are old Bridgies?
Am I seeing incorrectly, or is the fan touching the radiator??

only did a little tinkering with it this morning playing with leads and a bit of cleaning, and she fired up in about 3 seconds :D but there was a bit of oily crap in the radiator :( but with a few flushes its nearly gone  so i took it for a run down the paddock and back a few problems no brakes except hand which works ok,and the tyres on it are 7.5inch wide which is to wide and when going over extreme bumps the rear tyres rub on the tub:o but over all fairly happy its the first time i have driven a series one and even though it seems to have a s2 engine it goes fairly well even though a little thirsty

It has a 88 radiator panel - definitely 86 mudguards though.

The tread pattern on those tyres look very much like the Dunlop Super Grippers we can get over here in NZ. 7.50 16R at NZD225 each and the set I am currently running on have done 40000km and have approx 6mm of tread left out of the original 15mm (approx).

Nice truck mate.

how do you tell the difference
JDNSW
1st May 2010, 12:40 PM
how do you tell the difference
Radiator panel - 86/107 - three apertures, 88/109 - only the big hole
Mudguards - the bolt for the stay on the bottom of the side panel is right at the edge of the wheel cutout on 86/107, two inches further back on 88/109.
The radiator panels are completely interchangeable, so this is not a good indicator of the model!

This an 86 front panel - see the extra air holes at the bottom behind the upside down T grill.
Also I don't believe that series 1s had that horizontal front panel in front of the radiator panel between the chassis rails. Maybe the lot has come off a series 2

No, although some royal review models did, so it may be an optional extra. But more likely came from the same place the engine did!

I do not think that is the engine number as that number is cast into the casting - maybe a part number.
Engine numbers are usually stamped into the block. I know where they are on a 2 litre engine but not a 2.25.

you have all that history about you and all the fun of playing around with it every week end and you want to exchange it all for a B....y Toyota?
Toyota's are only fun for Toyota dealers counting all the loot from selling heaps of spares and promises of how it will make it to the next checkpoint?

Did it come complete with the farm gate on the front,
BTW that type of gate is illegal in south Australia , because of the angle, it pushes little ole ladies and joey's Under instead of over the bonnet.Just a BTW :)

If its wiring problems and you see smoke, the smell is very important to notice and is distinctive.
what type of smell did you notice Tony?
Oily smells are totally different to burnt insulation and wire!
Also carrying a fire extinguisher in the vehicle is a good idea, I have one in all my vehicles.
