View Full Version : Buying a D3 out of Warranty?

Hi all, looking to upgrade the NS Pajero later this year as the terrible nvh is driving me nuts and I'm keen for some refinement.
Budget wise I'm going to have to look at a few year old D3 which will probably be out of (or close to) new car warranty. Should this be concerning? Are the repair/parts prices too much for things that may go wrong out of warranty?
We would also like to do some more Outback touring and even a Cape trip in the next few years. Does this rule out a D3 due to remote area support and reliabilty of electronics?
I have been wanting a D3 for years and now that I'm in a position to get one, these few concerns have been bugging me.
Cheers, Sam.

Sam,
Do a search for extended warranties and check out some earlier thread in the forum, also try the following link which might also give you some thoughts .
DISCO3.CO.UK • View topic - Factory Warrantee runs out in 8 days - What to check please? (http://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/topic50148.html)
It would appear most would suggest purchasing an extended warranty as being money well spend as these are expensive vehicles to repair and maintain.
Also I believe there were a few more problems with the early D3's than the later models and whilst they generally have been much more reliable than prior LR models any failure particularly of or a major component or item would be a real pain and drain on the wallet.
Good luck in your hunting.

George

I'm pretty sure the allianz warranty can be taken out any time before the end of the factory warranty but as others have said there have been rumors that they may be stopping the program for new applications but would have no idea when

sam,
Personally I would buy an 07MY (or later) with some factory warranty left & then purchase the Allianz extended warranty.
The 07MY has some upgrades to previous year models although I am not exactly sure what.
I ended up buying an 09MY D3 demo on runout & am very happy.

Strangely enough, just today I got the "Welcome" call from LR for buying my D4. When they asked if there was "anything else you want senior management to know" I suggested a factory extended warranty option and the guy mentioned that LR are in talks with an aftermarket warranty company to provide a "factory" extended warranty (ie LR will buy the insurance, potentially mark it up, and then onsell it). He said they were close to signing a deal.
