Hello All

I have just had a look and the factory front recovery point has been removed when the nudge bar was fitted, The bar has two recovery points fitted. They look secure enough, 6mm thick Stainless steel and bolted to the chassis.

Have a look at the pic below and give me your thoughts. I think they would be fine for a gentle/medium recovery using a tow rope but would be a bit reluctent for a full on snatch.

I think I would use two rated shackles and a short strap on both points to distribute the load. Especially for a tow other than dead streight?

I have purchased a reciever recovery point for the tow bar so thats covered, I dont intened to do really serious off road as to date I cannot afford to fit the CDL, lift kit, get rid of the steps, tyres, winch etc.

Your input ??

Thanks Andrew

Those are similar to the ones on the ARB winch bar.

Rated or not I reckon they'd be fine for a tow / gentle "snatch" recovery situation but I wouldn't go bull at a gate ! If you have the rear point you mention then you can always get pulled out in reverse eh ! (well, usually)

Something worth looking at which is hard with the pic but are there crush cans behind where the bar is mounted? If so you risk "stretching" these in a recovery which would affect airbag deployment.

There are plenty of threads about recovery points on this forum, what you have are really for towing/tie down only. Proper recovery points should be fitted with at least two 12mm high tensile bolts back into the main chassis. A broken towing point can cause serious damage.

2 x 12mm boolts is a bit of overkill for 1 recovery point, given each would be in double shear. Nevertheless I agree entirely that they should be direct back to the chassis.

I suspect the point of the conneciton point in the pic is simply to replace the lashing down point that is removed as a consequence of fitting the nudge bar. These are not recovery points and should not be used as such. Any un-intentional snatch in any direction other than straight ahead will more than likely cause some damage somewhere.

I'd use them for light snatching - i.e. essentially getting towed out and some light rocking.

Then again even with really good recovery points I'd avoid a full on snatch at all costs.

Hi the crush cans are in front of the mountining points for the bar and would not be effected

Hi I just checked the the bar is fitted to the chassis with 2 12mm bolts on either side, bit hard to show in photo though.

I did the same with a D2 nudge bar... cut off the original mounts as they dont fit a D1 and they are rusted at the tube and made another set.

Thanks Stooge I have just looked at your thread, bar looks good. Its almost identical to my set up the only differance is mine is stainless.

Have you had the opportunity to use it for a recovery and if so how dit it handle it??
