2006 TD5 Gearbox / Clutch problem

My 2006 110 TD5 had no issues selecting any gear before I set off for the Red Centre. It has 50,000km on the clock.

About 1500km ago (on way back to Sydney) I noticed 3rd gear was occasionally hard to select, didnt think much of it as we were both tired.

Now though, 1st gear and 3rd gear are often difficult to engage, other times they just drop in without problem.

The 110 is a UK import so has no R380 oil cooler. During the trip there were a few 12hour driving days.

It was fully serviced 6,000km ago (by me) and all fluid levels are still correct. Clutch feels fine at all times.

Is the lack of cooler likely to be the issue, cooking the gearbox oil during those long hot days?

Any other thoughts or ideas?

Well, changing the fluid is an easy thing to try Jon before conjecturing any further although it almost sounds like the clutch occasionally not disengaging properly.

Thanks. Presume we are talking gearbox oil, not clutch fluid - cant imagine the clutch fluid to be dead.

Has it ever been difficult to get out of reverse?
Also , I think there is a thread on here about the best gearbox oil.
I have a UK built 02 Fender and not sure if it has the gearbox oil cooler or not?

Reverse has never been a problem before and Ive not noticed it currently either.

Unless you have put a cooler on yourself, and its not a Rest Of World spec, it wont have one.

Mats out and tunnel off time me thinks! There is a very slight oil leak coming from somewhere higher than the filler so it could be up around there also...

Are the bolts you talk about under the remote shifter cover and thus part of the mechanism or are they the actual cover bolts? From memory the cover is held on by 6 small (M6 maybe) bolts.
